3rd Floor Common Room, Late Saturday Morning

Aug 17, 2013 11:26

It took Bay a while to figure out that this wasn't just one of those wacky weekends where she personally got to walk a mile in Daphne's shoes. But even after she knew everybody was deaf, she took one look at the demon-bird-things swooping down and decided she needed more cover than a freaking bouncy castle could provide. She grabbed a couple ( Read more... )

Kenzi held up a notepad in front of her when she walked into the room. THIS BLOWS!

Then flopped down on the couch and quickly wrote: What movie?

"Deafenstein. My sister's favorite," Bay tapped back on her phone before passing to Kenzi. "And yes, it blows," she added with her mouth.

Blame Daphne for Bay's tacky taste in silent-ish films!

Kenzi mouthed "Deafenstein?!" because seriously? then started laughing silently.

She wrote back: Your sister's deaf? I'm guessing.

Bay nodded. "Since she was three," she mouthed, holding up three fingers. "We sign with her."

She signed the last sentence and gave Kenzi a hopeful look. Any chance she understood?

Kenzi caught 'three' and then nodded, imitating Bay. Badly, but hey. Hmm. There might be good reasons to learn ASL, if she did go on to be a master thief... She shrugged t and grinned. Stared at the black-and-white movie, then mouthed, "When was this made?" Hmm. When was this made? Is there a sign for time?

Bay nodded, showed her the signs she needed -- 'time' was just pintng at your wrist, but 'when' was a bit more complicated.

And then she reclaimed her phone to add. 1970something? They just had NO budget. Which kind of shows.

As when 'Frankenstein' came out of a house and almost knocked the scenery over.

More silent laughter from Kenzi, and reaching for the popcorn. MST3K! she wrote on her tablet.

Time, that was easy. The 'when' wasn't too hard, but Kenzi had to make the international sign for 'loco' right after that, and then point at the screen.

Totally, Bay signed and mouthed back, so emphatically it was impossible to miss. On her phone, she tapped out: No one in the whole movie can act. At all. It's sort of amazing they managed to make something this bad.

Kenzi munched on the popcorn, marveling as she watched. We could do better than this without even trying. And signed 'Totally' back. She squinted, and then wrote, Now I kind of want to try!

Bay nodded. We did it once. Zombie movie. Will tell you the story when we can hear again.

An O-Kay sign from Kenzi, then a thought: More sign language too? Could be useful. Especially if this happens again. A thoughtful headtilt. Trade?

What's in it for me? Bay asked, mostly kidding. I'll teach you either way.

Lockpicking? Pickpocketing? Kenzi grinned. You choose. Fair's fair.

Bay smiled and held up her hands to mime a key turning in a lock. Pickpocketing was interesting, if disturbing, but a graffitti artist could use a way to get past locks...
