Camelot Castle Campfire, Saturday Morning

Jun 15, 2013 15:08

It was not every day that Envy Adams found herself waking up in a bouncy castle. In fact, it had been around two decades since she'd last done it. And yet here she was. And admittedly, she'd felt far more dignified in her life than she did when she was clambering out of the plastic monstrosity, but her grace stats were pretty high by now. She ( Read more... )

Peter had gotten up, sighed, rolled his eyes, wandered around-- and homed in on the one face that was somewhat familiar. He was mildly annoyed, but not as much as he could have been; years of Fandom had taught him that that reunion invitation he'd discarded might come back to bite him in the ass anyway.

"Now this looks... homey," he commented, hands stuck into the pockets of a suit that was far too expensive to have spent the morning pressed into a bouncy castle.

Envy's glance over was openly amused. "Explains why you're sticking out like a sore thumb then, dollface."

What? What was the fun in knowing a Hegemon since high school if you couldn't call him inappropriate names? Never mind that her comment was a pot-kettle thing. Her designer outfit had probably cost a small fortune.

"Ah, look who rolled out of a pile of bargain Gucci this morning," Peter greeted back, because honestly, what was the fun in knowing Envy Adams since high school if you couldn't be bitchy right back? None, that was what.

"Hurtful, Peter," Envy deadpanned. "You know I don't like Gucci." Or maybe he didn't. Didn't matter for the purposes of a joke. "Besides, I don't think they do bouncy castles."

Peter glanced back at them with some distaste. "I can't believe we ever put up with this crap."

"Well, we were young and foolish." Said like someone who wasn't entirely sure they'd ever properly been either. "Of course, technically we're putting up with it even now."

"Technically, I just woke up," Peter said. "I have a wallet in this jacket and the hotel isn't too far from here. I think I'll have to go to the mainland to get my suit pressed, but..."

If he had to, he'd live with it creased.

"I already have someone grabbing me a room," Envy replied, because at this point in her life, her first impulse when faced with a problem was to get someone else to deal with it. "I'm sure they could find someone to come press your suit adequately, too."

"Fair," Peter mused. "I could probably charm the hotel staff into finding an ironing board if it came to that."

Usually making someone else do it was his go-to, too; it was just that all of his people were elsewhere and he didn't see himself finding new people in such a short period of time.

Envy pulled her phone out again - no messages from Lucas yet - and typed something, glancing up. "Well, it would be pretty embarrassing for you if a wrinkly suit was suddenly your downfall."

"I think it's a little late for anything to be 'my downfall' short of a worldwide upraising," Peter said. "Which isn't going to happen because our economy is doing great."

And that was how these things worked.

"Mm hmmm." Well, that was how these things worked. "And now that the most important updates have been dealt with, how is our darling Petra?"

"Doing well now that our youngest has scaled down the frequency of her screaming in the middle of the night," Peter replied, shrugging his shoulders. "I don't understand how people can have kids without a small team ready to help you out at all hours of the night."

Though it was still him or Petra taking the call more often than not.

"I don't understand how people have kids at all," Envy replied with no particular tone. She had respect for him and Petra for doing the family thing, but it was not for her.

And really, maybe the multiverse was better off without any Adams-Lee spawn. Their work in the entertainment industry would be their legacy. Their protegés were their kids. It was enough.

She smiled a little. "As much as I have experience with people screaming at me."

"Oh, trust me, it's nothing like this," Peter said with a snort. "Being yelled at at three in the morning every night, having to come over and feed the blasted terrorist because she's your daughter and she's the most precious thing in the world."

"No, it's usually earlier than that, and no one's expecting me to guide my screaming masses through their lives."

Although she knew for a fact there were young women in the world whose teen years she'd impacted for the better. And that was part of her legacy, too.

But an entirely different thing and she didn't pretend otherwise.

"But I have so many reasons to prefer this."
