"I was warned," Olive noted dryly. "I'm just glad that the girls got skipped. Ha ha, sucks to be a dude today." She glanced at Kenzi, and added, "Are you normally male? Because I mean all of that still, I'm just checking."

"Bless the Big Sister-Brother system," Kenzi said, flopping onto the couch. "And yeah, no, I'm always like this, except when I'm rocking the guyliner and stubble. Kenzi, from down on second floor."

"Olive, from down the hall," she said with a little wave. "Not gonna lie, I'm doing this now in the hopes that some kind boy will take pity on me the day I wake up with a dick. Because that is gonna be a rough, rough time for me."

"I had a male roommate, last time this happened? But he was like six inches shorter and fifty pounds lighter than guy me," Kenzi sympathized, wincing. "So yeah, wearing his clothes was not fun 'til I could get to a Goodwill, believe it." She considered Olive. "Think you'll be kinda a cute guy? You're cute now, so."

"I think you're not allowed to not be hot here," Olive noted. "Even the people I'm not attracted to are objectively generally like, gorgeous. I haven't seen an ugly person yet. So, you know, fingers crossed that dude-me is not the first."

Kenzi snickered, trying to think of ugly guys. Or girls. "You know, there's a couple guys who are different-or-weird-looking but hot, and some girls who I'd say are okay looking but I'm not a guy, so maybe they think they're hot... but overall, you are so right. Island of the Hotties. We should be a reality show."

"We probably already are," Olive decided, mostly facetiously. "I mean, I'd watch us. Think of how ratings would spike during stuff like this."

Kenzi cackled. "So truuue. God knows people look at the stuff I put up on YouTube when things are really crazy... So I'm guessing you're from somewhere kinda-normal-ish for the 21st Century?"

"Deeply normal, no 'ish' about it," Olive said, shaking her head. "Ojai, California, circa two years ago. That part gives me a headache. But we are completely without ghosts and goblins and telekinetics and sparkly flying girls and all that. You?"

"Two years? Dude. You can so clean up on Olympic bets in two years for you." Envy! So much envy! "Canada, all over. And apparently, there's like a magical underground of fae stuff that nobody who isn't magic ever sees. Or really, really unlucky. Or lucky." Yeah, guess which one Kenzi fell into. "Who knew, right?"

"What's a fae?" Olive asked, suspecting she did not mean effeminate in this case. That would be too easy.

"Like, werewolves and vampires and succubi and crap. One of the teachers who was here last summer is from my world back home." Which was not how she knew about it, but tcha. Details. "He looks like a leprechaun, but he just gave me a Look when I asked him about that. He never did say what he was, exactly."

"Oh my god, I would have never stopped asking him what his favorite Lucky Charms shape was," Olive said, wide-eyed. "I didn't know...vampires were a thing. Or werewolves. Not surprised, but...that's new."

"I know!" Kenzi was waving her arms around. "The guy who owns the Devil's Nest is a vampire, for what it's worth. He's always in the VIP section looking scary and hot. Or scary-hot. Just for starters."
