"Would you like to invite your parents to it, or no?" Rilla asked, wiping away the tears that totally didn't exist, all right, and reaching for a pad of paper.
"Maybe a beach party, if the weather's not too bad," she said thoughtfully. "This way anyone can show up and maybe people will be more likely to come!"
Yes, she was still paranoid that no one would come to her parties.
"Does it? Good, I was hoping." No, Annie, everyone thought you wanted to have a boring party. "And what graduation is complete without a billion things to do, right?"
Annie had gotten herself some tea, which she couldn't seem to stop stirring as a sort of nervous distraction, because she was graduating and next week was finals and then high school was over and how did more people not have total breakdowns this time of year?

Which meant that Annie wasn't sure her parents were even coming so she'd just schedule things around that little detail.
