Fifth Floor Common Room, Wednesday Evening

Toby had just gone to get a little dinner for himself, but apparently the Chinese food place was in the middle of a 5-for-1 special. Which, well. He wasn't gonna turn down free food, but now he had entirely too much. Hence, common room, in hopes that he might be able to foist off some of this food instead of letting it go to waste

"Hey, Toby," Stephanie said as she poked her head in. Having a free-food sense wasn't a metahuman ability (at least not for her), just something you tended to cultivate when food was hard to afford at times. "Anything interesting on?"

"A show about a woman who talks to dead people?" Toby offered, looking only slightly sheepish at being caught watching it. He had deliberately set up the food in the hopes of people coming in, after all.

". . . not necessarily the definition of interesting I had in mind, but it'll do," Stephanie decided, eyeing the food not at all subtly. "It's not all morbid and depressing, is it?"

"Nah, it's... I think she helps them with their unfinished business, or whatever," Toby explained. "It kinda sucks you in."

Stephanie had to stop there, halfway through reaching for the chow mein, and give him a look. "Okay, this is Fandom, so please tell me you don't mean that at all literally, please?"

"Wouldn't I be talking to you from inside the TV, in that case?" Toby wondered. "But no, I promise no one has been literally sucked in to the TV since I turned it on."

"Aha. Yet." Wow, Stephanie hoped she hadn't just jinxed it. Oh, well. Chow mein it was, and a nice healthy plateful of it. "You realize now that if I ever do walk in here and find you talking to me from inside the TV, I'm going to assume it's because you gave it ideas?"

"Hey, you're the one who decided to make it literal," Toby pointed out. "So I'm portioning out some of the blame on you." Because he was super-generous like that.

"So magnanimous of you, Toby," Stephanie pretended to sigh. "Can you blame a girl for wanting to double-check, though, given the whirlwind of weird in which we live?"

"I suppose not," Toby admitted with a fake sigh of his own. "But constantly watching what we say so we don't accidentally get taken literally is gonna get old after a while."

[batwaffles]

"Luckily for us, that isn't usually a problem around here," Stephanie decided. "Oooh boy, I better not have just jinxed it."

"See!" Toby jabbed a chopstick in her direction. "It's a slippery slope!"

[batwaffles]

"Watch where you point that, buddy!" Stephanie blurted out, but playfully. "If I jinxed it . . ."

Oooh boy, if I did the boss is going to kick my ass.

". . . I'll fix it! Somehow!"

"You'd better. Or else... well, I don't actually know what else," Toby admitted. "I'm the worst at threatening people." That was not really a bad thing, Toby.

"Or else . . ." Stephanie crossed her arms and pretended to look intimidating. "Well, hopefully you'll come up with something long before that ever happens."

"Or I just won't have to!" Toby said brightly. "I like that plan better."
