Menudo Campfire, Sunday Evening

Jun 12, 2011 16:58

Right, so. Bobby was clearly making up for lost campfire time by following Alex's example from the other day and dragging just about every sort of camping-related food out to the campfire. He may be somewhat hopeless in the kitchen (well, even that wasn't entirely true- he could make a passable cupcake so long as no fish or other disgusting ( Read more... )

Karla had wandered over to Menudo to see if Tony was about and bitch over the rudeness inherent in certain friends just taking off into space without so much as by your leave--which she certainly wouldn't have given--but she stopped abruptly when she saw Bobby standing in front of the fire.

"Kiss ki--uhh." Cue the stopping and sudden resumption of awkward. "Oh. Bobby. Hi."

Yeah, about the awkward.

And then it was Bobby's turn to be awkward as he struggled for something to say.

"...Hey," he finally managed.

"I was just passing by to say hi to Tony," she supplied. Unnecessarily. "I think he's in the cabin?"

Except, no. He was right there at the campfire. Bobby's campfire, or so it looked. Dammit.

"Mind if I stay? For just a few minutes," she added hastily, before looking away.

"S'a free country," Bobby shrugged. "Campfire. Whatever. I can't kick you out."

Oh. Well, so long as he was going to be gracious about it...

"That's reassuring," she noted wryly. "Glad to know I won't be hauled off in chains if I sit down."

"Sookie and War would probably make sad faces at me in that case," Bobby said. Look! An attempt at something not entirely unlike a joke!

"Not to mention the faces I'd be making," Karla muttered. "Probably a lot more panicked than sad, but there you go."

"It's not like they'd haul you off to jail," Bobby counted. "Probably just detention."

"Probably run by Deadpool," Karla pointed out. "Not exactly the better option."

"Maybe not," Bobby had to admit. "Though I think he's banned from doing anything that'd cause lasting damage?"

"Yeah, but it's Deadpool," Karla countered. "He has plenty of ways of causing short-term damage."

"I guess," Bobby shrugged. "The worst I've had to do was build a swingset."

"Oh."

This conversation was just fiiiiiilled with awkward wasn't it? More awkward than actual words.

"Well--that's good."

I'm sorry, Bobby.

"We're sort of family," Bobby offered, looking for something that would... mostly just fill the silence. "In a weird, convoluted sort of way."

glacial_witch June 13 2011, 04:40:30 UTC
"..You're family with Deadpool?"

Now Karla was all kinds of confused.

"Kinda?" Bobby shrugged. "I mean, he's all... shacked up with Cable, who's Scott's kid, and sort of Jean's too, in a way, and they're basically my family, so..." he trailed off, swallowing the lump in his throat that came with thinking about how they'd had to send off the baby version of Nate with the Askani for his own good. He wasn't even sure why he was saying all of this, except that it was Karla and he didn't know what to say and so babble was just kind of spilling out instead.
