4th Floor Common Room | Friday Afternoon

Angelica was feeling a lot less skittish than she had a week ago upon arriving in Fandom. Everyone had been so nice, and she didn't have to deal with Empath and Roulette trying to embarrass her in class (even if said classes were very weird). She knew she had to be careful about her powers and making sure she didn't hurt anyone, but making ( Read more... )

Faramir did not often visit common rooms, but the sounds drew his attention on his was up to the fifth floor.

He merely poked his head inside the room to see if there was something interesting happening and smiled at the familiar face. "Hullo, Angelica."

"Hello, Faramir," Angelica responded, tearing her attention away from the television. "How are you?"

"I have been well," he smiled and inclined his head. "I have managed to survive a class on computers today, so that seems quite an accomplishment."

He moved further into the common room. "And it seems that you have survived your first week of classes. Did everything go well?"

"I have a class on trying not to get killed, but it was really weird," Angelica said. "We had to run around the island and make bracelets and row boats and put a bookshelf together. But I didn't get killed at least." She'd just melted a bracelet and come in last place.

He would have pointed out that staying alive was rather more important than coming in last.

"Those are very diverse skills to master," he commented as he perched on the armrest of an armchair. "Was it the purpose to keep your mind on several things at once or were the tasks more dangerous than they sound?"

Staying alive was very very important!

"I guess if someone fell out of the boat they could have drowned," she said, thinking that over. "And it was hard to put the bookshelf together, but I don't think it was very dangerous unless it fell on you." Or you set it on fire.

"Curious," he mused. "Perhaps the purpose will be more clear next class. And aside from classes, did everything go well? Are you getting along with Elphaba and... Stephanie, was it?"

Angelica nodded enthusiastically. "They've been really nice," she said. "Just about everyone has been. I feel a lot less worried that I did last week."

"Good," he smiled at her, sounding honest. "I am glad to hear that. Have you had a chance yet to visit the stables?"

"Not yet," Angelica said. She was still gathering her courage because she was afraid of hurting another horse like she had Butter Rum. "I haven't had much time to look around yet. Are they next to the dorm?"

Faramir nodded. "They are yes, it is the building right outside," he replied. "There are a few other horses there and two hounds as well."

"Did you bring your horse from your home?" Angelica asked curiously. "Or did you get him here, at that place in town you mentioned?"

"Baru is my horse," Faramir said with a smile, not hiding his fondness for the animal. He did not think he would need to with her either. "He is a horse from Rohan. They train the best horses to be found in the whole of Middle-earth."

"You mentioned that place before," Angelica remembered. "Do they have different breeds in Rohan than from here? Or do they look like horses from this world?"

She was starting to get the hang of the other world thing, but it was still weird.

Weird it was, but Faramir thought it entirely fascinating.

"I have not studied much of the horses here, but they seem very much alike," he replied. "There are different breeds, a soldier in heavy armour would need a horse more strongly built than a ranger does. There is a breed in Rohan that a stands above all others. They are the mearas, noble horses swift as the wind and smarter than any you have ever met before. They are the horses of King of Rohan, however. King Theoden would never part with any of their breed."

She had asked.

"They must be really amazing if a king treasures them like that," Angelica said. "Ms. Frost had some purebred horses at the Academy" -- all of which, conveniently, had been sent off to another stable the night of the fire -- "but I don't think she had anything like that."
