Deck | Afternoon | Wednesday | March 2

After what seemed like a winter that lasted forever, Bod was glad to see the temperatures warming enough that he could spend some time outside. He enjoyed common rooms but they didn't compare with finding a seat on the deck and breathing in the fresh air. There was just something he preferred about being outside and lounging in natural light. It ( Read more... )

To be honest, Jeremy was mostly out and about only because he'd gone through his stuff and found a nice scarf he didn't remember buying, and kind of wanted to wear it, and that was better suited for being outside than staying cooped up in his tiny room.

But the fact remained that he was out, no matter how inane the reason. He was about to ignore the deck until he saw someone he recognized and took a detour. "Hey, Bod! How's things?"

Bod took his eyes off his book and smiled when he spotted Jeremy. "Hullo there, Jeremy. Things are fine, I suppose. I'm adjusting to going back to classes and the chillier weather. How are you?"

"I am maximum," Jeremy informed him as he flopped into a chair with the ease of someone who generally had very few cares in he world. "A little bummed not to be in Hawaii anymore, but I figure I can go back if I want, so it's all good."

"I'm actually surprised you haven't been there before," Bod said, assuming that by the way Jeremy spoke about the past vacation. "Did you manage to return from Hawaii without a sunburn?"

"Oh, no, I've been to Hawaii before," Jeremy replied, waving a hand. "It's just been a while. And yeah, I totally avoided getting burned, dude."

That really shouldn't have been something to be quite as proud about.

"Was that just your good luck or were you like me in that you had to lather yourself up with sunscreen that's about as powerful as a nuclear bomb?" Bod asked, laughing.

"I think it was a careful combination of sunscreen and staying in the shade," Jeremy mused, nodding sagely. "And maybe a little luck, too. I got distracted by the ocean a couple of times."

"I think I got a little pink but nothing too bad," he said, looking down at one of his arms. He couldn't see his skin but the thought was there. "Caroline said I might turn into a lobster but I think I've proven her wrong. I came back just as ghostly as I was before I left."

Jeremy nodded again. "So did I." Even if he wasn't quite as pale as Bod. "And so did Caroline, actually. I don't know, I leave the tanning to Jules. I think she likes it better."

"Perhaps it's easier for girls than it is for guys?" Bod suggested having never really thought about it before. "Maybe they're more predisposed?"

"Maybe," Jeremy shrugged. He hadn't really thought about it either. "You'd think anyone would be, though. I mean, all you really have to do is lay around."

"I'm not very good at laying around," he said and shook his head. "I always feel like there's something else I could be doing. Someone once tried to teach me the benefits of being lazy and while she made some good points, I'm still not very good at it."

"Maybe it's not for everyone," Jeremy allowed, though it might have pained him to admit that. "I don't think either of my brothers really get it, either. And most girls don't seem to appreciate my talents at being lazy."

That might have said more about the girls at his fancy previous schools than about anything else.

"So, basically, in this short conversation, we've made the discovery that no two people are the same," he said and laughed. "I would have thought all the books I've read would have clued me into that. Though, sometimes I do envy those who can be lazy. I just get restless and I think too much."

"Can't say I'm familiar with the feeling, dude." Surprising no one. Jeremy leaned back in his chair. "I have exceptional skills at zoning out."

"Really?" Bod asked, surprised despite himself. "When you're just sitting being idle, you don't think at all?"
