The Lobby, Sunday Afternoon

Aug 08, 2010 15:18

A rip opened in the middle of the dorms lobby-- but it was unlike any void the island had seen before. It didn't precisely shine, but white light did filter out, almost tentatively, like the rays of the morning sun. It did not pull or pluck at anything, and when it vanished, it would leave the dorms exactly as it had found them ( Read more... )

Helen fell through the rift, staggering a little as she landed. It took a few moments for her to realize she was actually back in Fandom and then all she really wanted to do was collapse and sleep and maybe cry for an hour or two in both horror and relief.

She settled for pulling herself to a quiet corner and watching to see if everyone else got back safely. She was filty and bruised and cut up a bit, but she was alive.

"Hotel bath for the next week?" asked a tired James; he made his way over to Helen as soon as he had spotted. "Gods, it's good to see you here."

Helen pulled herself up on the wall, wincing at the pain, and wrapped her arms around him. "I'd hoped you were here safe," she whispered.

He noticed the wincing and refrained from giving her a bearhug, if barely. "I wasn't sure what happened. I saw others, but not you, and I didn't know what was going on. We made it back, though. It's damn good to see you again."

The two of them may need a nice long soak for about a month to recover.

She nodded, sniffling a little, but trying valiantly not to give into tears. "We're back and we're safe and, and I'm so glad you're here and I can hold you."

Tears were perfectly acceptable. "Glad I don't have to call in calvary to search for you." He'd ask her where she ended up after a bit. "I'm here. I'm here and I'm real."

"And you're not on fire," she said, feeling foolish, but burying her face in his chest anyway. "Are you hurt? Do you need anything?"

"As far as I know, I'm not on fire," he said with a laugh. "Which is good, because I had that small flask of Quegan fire, and that could be quite deadly in a confined space."

He squeezed her a bit more. "Yes. I am very hurt, and I need someone to rub every ache and bruise out of my skin." He said it teasingly; the cuts and bruises were visible, if mostly covered by clothing.

Helen was considerably more cut up, her arms still oozing a little blood from the creatures claws. She didn't care, though. She was here and her friends were here and James was here and...

"I need to shower first," she said. "And I don't, I can't go back to the cabins tonight. I need a good bed and a door and strong walls. And light. Lots of light."

"Do you need any help?" he asked, noticing the blood as he caressed her arms, and frowning. "We should get you cleaned up, spend the night in the dorms or at the hotel, someplace safe."

And possibly get her to the medical clinic or a healer if he couldn't patch her up.

"I'm just so tired," she said quietly. "If you can help me to a shower and then, maybe your room? if you don't mind? I... don't want to be alone tonight."

"Like I would kick you out," he scoffed. "Shower. Then bed. And I'll skewer anyone who says that the showers are not 'coed' or tries to stop us," he said, using a word he had picked up...and included in a letter to Arutha about how the dorms were divvied up.

She smiled ruefully, her lips quirking against his neck. "I didn't think you would, but... yes, let's go to the showers."

"Anyone you want to check on first?" he asked; he had made a few rounds before finding Helen.

[OOC: did you want to put up a dorm/hotel post?]

Helen shook her head. "I talked to them all, I think. I just need to get Kianah food and water and then shower and collapse. With all the lights on if you can tolerate it."

She shuddered. "It was so dark there all the time."

[ooc: Sure I'll do that. His room okay?]

"I think I could sleep through court trumpets," he declared. "All the light we need, as long as we need it," he promised.

He hadn't thought of Kianah, and told her about it; he felt bad.

[ooc: certainly!]
