Bod, who wasn't displaying any effects of the current weirdness because work killed the mun's creativity, wasn't quite expecting this sort of party when he'd gotten the email yesterday.
With Puck's gift in hand, he sort of just stared at the room around him and listened to the music playing. He hadn't guessed this was Kate's sort of thing but maybe it was just something he hadn't learned yet.

Would it make him feel a little less out of place if his girfriend was to come up to him, in her dress and her cute knit cardigan and her red lipstick and her high heels, completely channeling some perfect little housewife from decades ago?
No? Too bad, because it was going to happen anyway.

Kate's smile widened. "I'm fine, thank you. Busy as a bee, but that's to be expected when you're the hostess." She laughed a bit. "And how are you, dearest?"
Re: Arrive/MinglevanillajelloJune 18 2010, 19:30:35 UTC
"Oh, piffle," Kate said lightly, making a dismissive gesture with one of her hands. "It was no trouble at all. I might not look like much, but I can throw a party by myself. I'm glad you like it."
Piffle? Bod assumed that was just slang he didn't know and let it go. It still sounded rightly strange coming from Kate.
"Are you all right?" asked Bod, unable to stop himself. Something was a touch off about her. Or possibly more than a touch. Something was definitely amiss. "You seem slightly different today."
Re: Arrive/MinglevanillajelloJune 18 2010, 21:00:17 UTC
Piffle was just one of the many, many things about today that would make Kate want to drink heavily once this weirdness wore off. Now, though, it was just a perfectly ordinary word.
"Oh?" she asked, raising her eyebrows. "What makes you say that? Everything's absolutely peachy."
And she was completely honest about that. And smiling.
"I'm not quite sure what's making me say that but you just seem a little different than the last time I saw you," he explained, shaking his head. "If you're feeling well though, that's very good. You seem very...pleased with everything."
Re: Arrive/MinglevanillajelloJune 18 2010, 21:17:13 UTC
"I am!" Kate said with a pleased laugh, gesturing around. "Everything's going great, I have every reason to be pleased. Did you see the cake? It's beautiful."
Way too much glee. And there was the matter of the way she was speaking, just a little bit higher than what was natural for her. It was supposed to make him feel safe and secure! Alice said so.
"I haven't seen the cake yet," he said, now starting to feel a littl uneasy with her seemingly hyperactive happiness. He hadn't ever seen her this happy. EVer. He didn't feel safe at her tone though. More like...surprised.
"Should you, perhaps, calm down a bit, Kate? I think you might exhaust yourself before the night is done."
Re: Arrive/MinglevanillajelloJune 18 2010, 21:27:03 UTC
"Pfft." There she went with the dismissive wave again. "I don't get tired." Even after having spent all day in heels. Yes, she'd worn them even while she baked. Had to look presentable at all times, after all. "This is what I live for! Making people happy."
"And it does seem like you're doing an excellent job of making Puck happy," he said, unable to hide some concern over her overall demeanor. "Everyone gets tired, Kate. I've seen you fall asleep before, I know you get tired."
"Did you just blush?" Bod asked, eyes widening at that. "Kate, you just blushed. Usually. I'm the one doing that. What did I say that made you suddenly so shy?"

Still. He felt weirdly out of place.

"Hi!"

Right, that was her name.
"How are you this evening?" he asked, trying to remember his manners even as he worked to process this.

"I'm well, thank you. The party looks very -- " Different. Strange. Tame. " -- nice. You've obviously worked quite hard, Kate. Did you have no help?"

"Well, yes," she said, and chuckled softly, eyes downcast with some sudden shyness, "but not anytime soon, silly."
