Fire. Fire usually meant food and company. Karla was definitely in the mood for both.

"Kiss kiss," she called, strolling up. "Ooooh, sausages! Please tell me they're for sharing."

"All for me," Sookie teased, gesturing expansively to the food. "I'm vowing to eat only things on sticks forever, and in large quantities."

"Soooooooookie!" Karla gave her very large puppy eyes. "I might starve to death and die if I don't eat something soon. I'm a Healer. I know how close to death I am."

She raised her wrist to her forehead and tried to look suitably tragic.

"You do look close to the brink of death," Sookie agreed thoughtfully. "All right. Fine. I'll share. But only because you look so very emaciated and I don't want that on my hands."

'Emaciated' had been a word of the day the other day. She was proud to have found a use for it.

"I'll remember your kindness always," Karla said, sitting down and grabbing for a sausage. "Especially next time I need to eat something."

"It's weird how many people seem to keep me in their thoughts when I'm hungry," she laughed. "I swear, I've fed half the school at this point."

"And now you're adored by all of us!" Karla said, fluttering her eyelashes as Sookie.

...She hadn't much improved at the skill yet, but it was okay right now when she was trying to look ridiculous. "Doesn't it all work out so nicely?"

Karla burst out laughing. "Sookie!" she said, trying to sound scandalized. "I am attempting to flirt shamelessly with you! Please stop getting distracted!"

Sookie snorted. "Oh, sorry! Um, be still my fluttering heart! Bobby's going to be distraught when he returns, because I've been stolen away!" Pause. "Better?"

"Much," Karla said, settling back to her seat and putting several marshmallows on her stick. "Very believable. I'm convinced we'll be running away together, just as soon as we've finished all the food you've brought."

"We should save some for provisions," Sookie decided. "For our elopement."

"Only the most delicious of all the delicacies," Karla agreed. "It wouldn't do to have us keel over right in the middle of our absconding. That would just be embarrassing."

"Should we both wear white?" she wondered. "I'm not sure what the deal is when there're two brides."

"White?" Karla asked, tilting her head in a question. "Are we supposed to?"

"Brides in this world traditionally do," she explained. "It's all symbolic of innocence and purity and so forth, blah blah blah."
