Fifth floor common room [after workshops]

Inspired by her French class today, Rilla had slipped into her room to pick up her copy of a Victor Hugo novel (in English. Her French wasn't nearly that good) and curled up on a sofa in the common room with the book, an apple and a cup of tea (which tasted a bit stewed. Rilla wasn't used to make her own tea

Claudia was restless and wandering the dorms, still a little buzzed from taking an actual science class. She meandered to the fifth floor and peeked in the common room.

"Hey, whatcha reading?"

Rilla held up her book. "Les Miserables or its meta," she said. "In English, I'm afraid."

"That's the one where they sing, right?"

Claudia was many things, but up on her Victor Hugo was not one of them.

Rilla's eyebrows drew together in confusion. "Not that I'm aware of."

Claudia frowned. "I could swear it was. It's the one with that girl, looking all black and white and depressed."

Apparently, she could remember the icon image of the musical well enough.

"I am about a hundred years behind on, well, everything," Rilla admitted, "so you are probably correct. I'm Rilla."

"Yeah, I guess that'd do it. Claudia. Nice to meetcha."

[rilla_myrilla]

"Likewise," Rilla replied. "Would you like to borrow my book? I practically have it memorized."

"Uh, sure." Claudia was down for expanding her literary horizons. "I'd offer to let you borrow some of mine, but most of the ones I have here are technical volumes. And a 16th century cartographer's journals."

"Are you planning to travel in the 16th century?" Rilla wondered.

There had been stranger revelations these last few days.

"Nah, but it may hold the secret of human teleportation."

[rilla_myrilla]

Rilla blinked. "Truly?"

"Yep. Dude was crazy smart."

[rilla_myrilla]

"So you believe it will really work?" Rilla replied.

"It really did something. And around here, there's proof enough that stuff like teleportation exists."

[rilla_myrilla]

"I'm still not certain half the tales I've been told haven't been an effort to shock me," Rilla confided.
