Apr 28, 2010 05:59

Through some miracle of timing, Bobby had actually managed to get everything for Warren's party set up earlier before heading off to Karla's.

Now, though, it was Warren's turn. Hopefully people would still have room for even more food after a BBQ, because the amount of food two brilliant bakers plus one person with access to a very good catering ( Read more... )

Kurt had brought a couple of boxes that were all nicely wrapped and tied together with lots of sparkly, dangly ribbons.

There may have been a theme.

"Kurt, you really, really shouldn't have."

Warren was smiling, so he clearly didn't seem to mind the gifts. They were cute, in a kind of... Well. They were...

They had wings.

"Thanks, man."

"No, but I did anyway," Kurt agreed, with a mischievous grin. "They just seemed so... YOU, you know?"

"I'll remember that, once your birthday comes around," Warren replied, grinning. "I imagine I could get something commissioned, just for you..."

Oh, he would do it, too.

For a guy that had wings, Bod thought his gift would work out well enough when Warren was in the air. Hopefully, said gift wouldn't break at extreme heights.

"Okay," Warren said, as he turned the watch over in his hands and looked it over, "this is probably the coolest watch I've ever seen." A beat. "Pretty much ever. Thanks, Bod."

And yes, he was totally putting it on now, grinning.

"It'll be useful around here, you know. I never did get to see many stars while I was living in the city. The lights always choked them out."

"I'm glad you like it," Bod said, pleased by that. "I don't know how it'll do at extreme heights but it seemed like something that someone who flies could use if they're ever just flying near the stars."

"Flying near the stars," Warren echoed. He managed not to look too thrilled at the sound of that phrase, somehow. "You know, I could almost get used to people taking that sort of thing into consideration around me? And when you phrase it like that, it makes me wonder why I ever bother landing."

... Aside from the fact that he would get very, very tired if he didn't.

"If you didn't, you'd miss your birthday party," Bod pointed out, thinking it obvious. "And other parties. And days when people cook food in common rooms. Plenty of reasons to land."

"Okay, you have me there." Warren grinned a bit. "And anyhow, if I was up there all of the time, then the watch wouldn't be all that useful, after a while. I wouldn't have to check it to see what's up there, not when I'm right there with it all."

... It made sense to Warren. Honest.

"And those of us that can't quite get up there will want to hear what the stars are like from up close."

Well, he would, at least.

"And if you felt the rain first, you could warn us about that too."

"You don't suppose I could beat the rain down here, do you?" Now there was something worth trying. "If nothing else, I don't think it would be impossible for me to take people up with me."

... Just so long as there was some sort of harness set up, so that he couldn't accidentally drop anyone. Because that would suck.

"I don't know, I've never met anyone with wings until arriving here," Bod answered, giving Warren a little smile. "Have you ever clocked how fast you can fly?"

"Not yet," Warren admitted. "I keep meaning to, but I haven't exactly gotten my hands on a radar kit or anything. And while I'm up there, I always seem to forget that that's something I should know. You never know when it might come in handy, right?"

"You could always race something?" Bod suggested. "A bird, perhaps? And then, if someone asks, you can say you're faster than a bird."
