Playing with wee Tony the afternoon before had been enough to convince Jack he should watch the entire Space Battles trilogy. It seemed to be valuable cultural knowledge ... and apparently it had a princess tied up while wearing a gold bikini in it

Speaking of lurking children, there was one peering warily around the door frame from the hallway. Her wild, white hair obscured her eyes.

That pizza smelled good. Enough that she came in tentatively.

"There's pizza if you want some," Jack offered. He was a little distracted by the sheer volume of children he had to feed, but that didn't mean he would be rude, especially not to a shy flower like this girl.

He didn't seem dangerous, and Florida had good instincts for that sort of thing. So she came all the way in and to the table with the pizza. She had to brush her hair out of her eyes to see it clearly.

She also gave Jack a small wave.

He could be very dangerous, but not to her. He smiled at the girl, watching her make her way to the food with one eye while the other stayed trained on the television.

They didn't have TV in Bordertown, though Florida had heard of it. So even as she reached for a piece of pizza, her attention was drawn to the screen.

Her eyes widened in awe. She grunted, pointing.

"You haven't seen a film before?" Jack asked, the considered . "Do you speak English?"

Florida shook her head, in answer to both questions. She didn't speak any language.
