The plastic-covered snacks were once again under umbrellas today as the Magic Reserves met outside. Next to the table was a very large tub, covered with a bright blue plastic tarp from T&C's

All the balloons are filled with warm water, so no one should get too cold. Also, there's a stack of warmed towels tucked away under the table for afterwards.

She totally was! What good was a water balloon fight if no one fought in it?
Karla flung up a hand, sending the incoming water balloon straight up over her head and then pointed back at Kennedy. The balloon followed the trajectory, hurtling towards Kennedy and her rock. Karla lobbed another balloon after it, relying on nothing but her arm and her aim, hoping Kennedy would be too busy dodging the first to notice the second.

Kennedy did dodge the first balloon, thinking if it was going to go that way, with magically thrown balloons, she had better not fall for any physical cues because those were probably a fakeout.
Which was how she ended up taking the second balloon smack in the forehead when she recovered from her dodge, and spluttered her way through hurling a two-balloon return volley.
Re: Water Balloon Fight!glacial_witchApril 21 2010, 20:09:09 UTC
This time, it was Karla's own hubris that got her. Someone was so busy preening about actually tagging Kennedy with a balloon that she failed to notice the return volley until it was too late.
Splash!
Both balloons connected, leaving Karla soaking wet and shrieking with laughter. "Enjoy those two!" she called, hurling a few more back.
Re: Water Balloon Fight!brat_inslayageApril 21 2010, 20:29:52 UTC
"Oh, I am," Kennedy replied with a smirk that was actually mostly innocent for the second or two before she ended up two balloons closer to waterlogged. "Oh, hey!"
Like she was really protesting all that much. Slinging three more balloons in rapid succession, sidearm, yes. Protesting, no.
Re: Water Balloon Fight!glacial_witchApril 21 2010, 20:36:59 UTC
Karla was impressed with Kennedy's arm. She knew she couldn't whip balloons with anywhere near as much accuracy or strength as Kennedy had without resorting to Craft.
Not that she was going to let being impressed get in the way of dodging, mind
The first water balloon exploded in the air, halfway between them; the victim of a bolt of energy. Karla dodged the second by running up the air, away from the balloon. She grabbled the third with Craft and flung it at Kennedy from above.
Re: Water Balloon Fight!brat_inslayageApril 21 2010, 20:45:12 UTC
Well, you know, when it was all you had to work with you did what you could, so Kennedy's aim was pretty damn good.
"Jesus," she half-complained, though it was hard to keep an impressed note out of her voice, even while diving out of the way of not-quite-death-from-above. She got splashed with some of the balloon's contents anyway, and was a little muddy now to boot. It meant she had to scramble back to her balloon-arsenal, empty-handed for the moment.
Re: Water Balloon Fight!glacial_witchApril 22 2010, 05:00:43 UTC
"If you saaaaaaaaaaay so," Karla said, sending the last two in her hands straight for Kennedy's head. More balloons rose up out of the tub, also speeding towards Kennedy even as Karla raced to get her hands on a few more.
In a flat footrace, Kennedy would beat her flat. Kennedy dodging a barrage of water balloons was another question entirely...

The shield that surrounded Karla turned a bright and shimmering blue when it was hit by the water balloon. Karla spun around and gave Leda a wicked grin when she spotted her, and then sent three balloons arcing the elf's way, propelled by Craft.

"Ooh, pretty colors." Leda laughed. She dodged the first balloon and used a levitation spell to throw the second one back. The third impacted on the shield, the water itself got through.

Note how this question, when asked of her rather than extended, would later get a different answer.
"Come on," she said, raising a hand in a 'bring it' gesture. "Make me work for 'em."
