After the week he'd had, Alex was pretty glad to be done with it with a week long vacation in the forecast. Of course, the night was made even better after an earlier trip to the mainland yielded a brownie and something a little bit more exciting than cigarettes to smoke. He thought he deserved a break

Rose was looking for the lumberjack on the roof was looking for fresh air without going down four flights of stairs. The air on the roof was - okay, rarely fresh but not exactly Common Room-y either.

"Celebrating break?" she asked when she saw the source of the non-fresh air.

"Something like that," he said, glancing over and half smiling at her. "I haven't had classes since Wednesday. Technically, already celebrated."

"Did anything good on with that celebration?" Rose asked.

The opposite actually but he was keeping a lid on that for the time being. "Why, upset you weren't invited?"

"Yes," Rose deadpanned. "You're breaking my heart here."

"Aww, anyway I can make that better?" he asked, not even a little bit serious. "Want a bandaid?"

"Does it have ducks on it?" Rose asked, widening her eyes.

"No, gazelles, sorry," he said, shaking his head. "Guess that means you'll have to heal yourself. Sure you got it in you. Walk it off."

"Good thing I'm sturdy," she decided with a smirk. "Bandaids with gazelles. There's something wrong with you."

"Mmm, you're not the first to say that," he said and took another slow drag. "I've started taking it as a compliment. How's your eye?"

"If we weren't talking about your weirdass bandaids, I'd agree," she teased. She shrugged. "Almost gone, totally fine."

"Good," he said sincerely. "It looks better. You don't look like a raccoon anymore. Though, bruises are hot on some girls."

Rose wasn't sure if she wanted to parse that as a compliment or not. "Usually when it's a lot more badass than raccooning it up," she pointed out.

"So, are you saying you weren't a badass?" he teased, smirking.

[guardianborn]

"I'm always badass," Rose told him, tossing her hair.

Just not when her mom kicked her ass, no.

"Except when you're not," Alex pointed out, shaking his head. "It's okay, Rose, I won't tell. Might make people look at you differently and all. The illusion would be shattered."
