Of course, the night was made even better after an earlier trip to the mainland yielded a brownie and something a little bit more exciting than cigarettes to smoke. He thought he deserved a break

Effy out on the roof on an evening? Hardly a big surprise. Even actually wandered Alex's way when she came out and realised he was already out here.

"Enjoying your evening?"

She assumed, considering the smell lingering in the air, he might well be. That was one she definitely recognised.

"More than I was enjoying my morning," he said, glancing over at her and hey, even managed a brief, slight smile for her. "You?"

"Can't really complain," she said, shrugging. Her day hadn't exactly been eventful. Which... well, didn't necessarily make it bad.

"Something wrong with your morning?" she wondered.

"Yes," he said but didn't elaborate. Something was wrong with his fucking life. "And I've found that people can complain about fucking anything if you put your mind to it. You must be feeling a little tired."

"Today's been kind of fucking boringly normal?" See look, she could complain. Just for him.

Alex was utterly touched. He was just showing it internally instead of externally.

"You hoping for something better?" he asked, turning towards and leaning a hip against the the wall of the roof. "Or just something less mundane?"

"I'd have liked something more fun than mundane," she answered. But when wouldn't she?

... Well, okay, there were possibly times she did, but they were relatively rare.

"This isn't fun?" he asked, grinning before blowing some smoke away from her like the polite soul he was. "I'm having fun. But hey, you wanna make it more fun for me, I wouldn't hate it. You entertain me, see how it makes me happy and then you're entertained."

That was some amazing logic right there.

"Having trouble entertaining yourself tonight?"

Effy wasn't just going to entertain him because he said so. Not a pushover, thank you.

"I didn't say that," he pointed out, shaking his head. "I said I could be happier if you ponied up some entertainment. I do know how much you like to entertain me."

Yeah, because she got up every morning to entertain him. Seemed like a noble cause to him.

"Because that's a way to make my day," she commented dryly, leaning back against the roof edge.

"I'm the one having a dull day. You can fucking entertain me."

"Is that right?" he asked, looking amused. "You want some entertainment from me? You haven't even asked nicely. Not sure you deserve any kind of entertainment."

"And you did?" Didn't hear a please from him either. Not that she really expected to at this point.

"It was implied." No, it fucking wasn't. "And I did ask first. That's gotta mean something."

Yeah, it meant that he asked first.

"You entertain me and I'll think about repaying the favor."

"Think?" That wasn't how the deal was supposed to go. "Don't you mean 'will'?"

"Does it?" He wasn't as good as talking people in circles as she was but sometimes he could give it the old college try. "I could decide I don't wanna entertain you. Might find something better to do."
