There were several ways to indicate fall was upon you. Changing leaves, of course, would be the obvious one. You could look at a calendar, which was just a boring way to do it. Sometimes you just needed some fresh air. Plus Andy had heard things about the roof but hadn't made it up there yet so he figured no better time to check it out than the present.

He hadn't been expecting to find Chuck up there.

"Nice scarf," he observed.

Chuck smirked. "Fresh air might be the last thing you find up here on some nights. It's a favorite spot among the smokers in the school."

"Oh, I got him to try it," Andy said, then lowered his voice as he continued. "But he's kind of a lightweight. Two hits and he was gone."

"You should make sure he builds up a tolerance," Chuck said. "All that coughing from newbies is a surefire way to get caught by the administration."
