Now, Turtle Wexler could hold her own in a kitchen if she had to, especially if it was simple stuff like mac'n'cheese or grilled cheese or generally anything with cheese involved. Thankfully, however, she didn't have to. Many of the delicious things of the world came easily prepared and packaged for her convenience ( Read more... )

Elle was grumpy and a little confused that Rose was nowhere to be found, but she'd called and left a message so really, what else could she do?

Plus she was distracted by the smell of toasting Pop-Tarts.

"Ooh, can I have some?"

She was all for having/experiencing as many things as she possibly could, just in case she went home sometime and never came back.

"Absolutely!" Turtle said happily, handing over a plate with two Pop-Tarts on them. "That's what they're there for! How's it going, Elle?"

"Pretty well," Elle said, breaking off a piece of Pop-Tart and popping it into her mouth. "Oh, yum, s'mores!"

Someone had developed a fondness for s'mores, apparently. Yay, cabin life!

"Ohmygod," Turtle said, grinning at Elle with a look of playful envy, "those ones are the beeeeeeeest. Well chosen, my friend. Well chosen."

Elle offered the unbroken one to Turtle. "You want?"

"Oh, no," Turtle said, shaking her hand, and nodding toward the box with plenty more where that came from. "I'm good. There's so many, you should probably have a few, and I should probably have a few, and there'll still be a gazillion left over."

"On the bright side, if the apocalypse comes, you'll be well-fortified," was Elle's opinion.

Turtle looked at the box for a moment and found she could only nod in agreement, because, really, that was a lot of Pop-Tarts.

"Or maybe," she offered thoughtfully, "we'll be attacked by something and it's one weakness would be Pop-Tarts. Then we'd show them."

The fact that this seemed entirely possible was proof that Turtle had been going to school here for way too long.

"Or some giant Pop-Tart creature will come looking for its children."

Elle had officially gotten used to Fandom, to come up with something like that.

"Oh, don't say that!" Turtle said, wide eyed, but laughing a little. "Then I'm not going to want to eat any more of them!"

"Oh, good point," Elle said. "I hadn't thought of that!"

"Thoughts like that," Turtle said, "are enough to make someone almost want to go vegetarian because you never know when some giant...pig or something might show up and want to seek revenge on your eating bacon."

"... but even if you go vegetarian, there's still a risk," Elle said. "I mean, there could be giant man-eating plants out there."

"I'm...actually pretty sure we've had that at one point," Turtle said. "I can't quite remember. After three years, everything starts to blur a little."
