Now, Turtle Wexler could hold her own in a kitchen if she had to, especially if it was simple stuff like mac'n'cheese or grilled cheese or generally anything with cheese involved. Thankfully, however, she didn't have to. Many of the delicious things of the world came easily prepared and packaged for her convenience ( Read more... )

"Hey Turtle," Layla said walking into the common room. "Need any help?"

Turtle snorted a little with a smirk. "All the help I can get," she said. "Because Pop-Tarts, you know. So difficult to make. I could probably use some assistance in eating them, though."

She held out a plate, urging it toward Layla. "Yeah?"

"Well as long as you're offering," Layla smirked as she took the plate. "I like the frosting colors. It's okay to take them if I'm not in your grade, right?"

"Of course!" Turtle said. "Not only are there plenty, but I'm hardly about to discriminate between classes. We're all Fandom High students, and therefor all entitled to free Pop-Tarts."

"I'll make sure to pass the word among the classes about your benevolence," Layla joked. "Just so you feel the love."

"That'd be awesome, Layla!" Turtle said, smiling. "And how have you been, anyway? The last few weeks feel like kind of a blur to me; I feel like I really haven't gotten to talk to anyone lately."

"Pretty good, yesterday a bunch of girls and I went to the spa," Layla said wigging her pink colored fingernails at Turtle. "It was interesting to see Emma explain a bikini wax to Karla."

"Oh, God," Turtle said, eyes a little wide. "Um, so, I'd like to think the explanation would dissuade everyone, but did anyone then go and get one? Because ouch. Whoever did, I want to send them some chocolate in sympathy."

Especially if they were a voter.

"No waxing done," Layla chuckled as she took a bit of her pop-tarts. "As Emma put it: It should only be done when absolutely necessary. Trust us... none of us needed it. So are you all set for your campaign?"

Turtle was not even going to begin ruminating what Layla meant by none of us needed it, and she was definitely not going to express her thought of yeah, join the club.

"I hope so," she said, instead, smiling, because campaign stuff was a better topic anyway. "I'm definitely starting to feel that antici...pation that comes with it, especially since this is the big leagues. Senior year! Up for president! Going to be pretty exciting!"

She infused as much brightness into it as she could because just thinking about it made her sick to her stomach with nervousness and it was probably going to be a whole fifteen minutes before she could even think of biting into her own Pop-Tarts.

"I'm sure it is," Layla said with a smile. "Sounds like you're going to be pretty busy especially with the new students coming in and everything."

"New students," Turtle agreed, starting to tick things off on her fingers as she listed them off, "not to mention campaigning, bid for presidency, college prep work, keeping up with the store, its branches, and the law office, radio with Val, possibly a Little Sibling, YA, I've been thinking of seeing about getting ABG back up again, I'll probably try to grab a TA-ship, and who only knows what I'm forgetting. I'm definitely going to try to take it easy this week and next because then it's petal to the metal, full speed ahead."

Layla tilted her head at Turtle a little. "Don't you think you need to take a little time out for yourself? I don't mean all the student activities and everything. I mean something for you just to enjoy and relax."

Turtle looked at Layla blankly for a moment, as if the other girl were speaking a foreign language, and then lifted her eyebrows.

"That's what the summer was for."

"I guess," Layla said with a raised eyebrow. "Though I seem to remember a story about an eccentric-yet-driven millionaire who developed an elaborate scheme just to hand off his fortune. Just seems to be a bit of a shame if you spend your life trying to accomplish things only to forget to have people around you at the end."

Turtle kind of had to eye Layla a little over a comment like that, frowning. "...Where'd you hear a story like that?" she asked.
