This was it. While Turtle, who was never going to shake off how much she hated that she'd been accused of bombings she'd never done in the past, was not one to support the damage of public property, especially not so close to a very important election, she felt much more strongly about her hatred of gym class uniforms...and her annoyance with ( Read more... )

Shilo walked by and stopped. And then coughed. And then held her nose while asking, "Uh, Turtle... why are you destroying school property?"

"It's a protest!" Turtle insisted. "Against an affront to the student body! No one should have to wear those things ever, again!" She balled up her fists and held them up a little, and then tossed another uniform into the fire with a small grin at Shilo.

"Come on," she wheedled, "not only is it making a statement, but it's also kind of fun."

"The smell of those things burning is an affront to the nose," Shi replied, still plugging hers. "Although it does look to be entertaining."

"Trust me," Turtle said, picking up a shirt and holding it out to Shilo, grin still in place, "you practically forget that the smell is there when you just focus on the ugly things burning."

"...okay." Shilo took the shirt, unplugging her nose in the process, and then threw it on the fire.

"Are the flames supposed to be that color?"

"Probably not," Turtle said. "Which only goes to prove that these uniforms aren't even Green! They're made of all sorts of synthetic fibers, the creation of which I'm sure is making loads of carbon footprints."

There was a pause.

"I'm sure burning them isn't exactly good for the ozone, either, but they're better destroyed, and it's a small price to pay, I believe."

"I think the environment will forgive us this once."

Now watch, it wouldn't forgive, and it would rain uniforms on Monday or something.

Turtle. Would. Die.

But for now, she just nodded. "This just needs to be done," she said, solemnly.

And then tossed a few more shorts into the air and into the fire and burst out in a bright grin.

"So how've you been anyway, Shilo?"

"I've been okay," she replied. "Getting through finals, right now. And getting used to a new boss."

"New bo--?" Turtle tilted her head, and then blinked, remembering. "Oh, that's right! Because Miss York and Sheriff Cooper got married."

"Yes, and Miss York... or rather, Mrs. Cooper now... sold the gallery to Sophie."

"Ahhh," Turtle said, nodding thoughtfully and hopefully appearing to be very much abreast with the goings-on around town. "Miss Devereaux, of course. I should try to stop in and see her and congratulate her on her new business."

Shilo smiled and nodded. "She'd like that, I think. How's T&C doing?"

"Very well, as usual!" Turtle happily reported. "No complaints! I'm afraid the store might have to take a backseat, though, coming up here, soon. Crunch time for college and StuCo elections are right around the corner!"

"StuCo?" Shilo looked confused. "What's a StuCo?"

"It's a nickname for Student Council," Turtle said, her grin brightening with the chance to talk about it. "Student government. In the fall semester, there's a campaign to elect two people to represent each class in the student government. I'm so excited for it!"
