Main Campfire; Tuesday Evening [ 07/07 ].

Jul 07, 2009 19:22

Turtle was thinking about going out to do her campfire jumping to meet new people and catch up with old people alive, but decided she'd take the hopping a little further and just go and get a good one going at the main campfire. She even took a trip down to the store so she had plenty of materials for s'mores, hot dogs, and there was even a cooler ( Read more... )

"Turtle! Hi!" Elle yelled and waved from a good many feet away, walking slowly over towards the main campfire in her baby pink three inch wedges. She was carrying a blue blanket and held it in front of her, against her short boob hugging tank. Her midriff was bare and wrapped around her small waist was a cute, rhinestone necklace, its excess bouncing against her designer jean clad thigh.

"How are you?" she asked when near, settling her blanket over a log so she could sit carefully down.

"Hey," don't say Crazy Pink Elle, "Elle!" Turtle greeted the other girl and tried to keep her smile down as she patiently waited for her to get to the campfire in those shoes. "I'm doing really well, thanks. You? Settling in okay?"

"I am settling, I suppose," she replied, iffy, but grinned wide. "I see you're getting ready to cook or roast I guess it is, here by the fire? Camping life is like, something I'm totally trying to get used to. Alex said I need flannel. Does Turtle and Canary sell flannel?"

"Of course we do," Turtle said with a grin. "We sell almost everything, Elle. You'll have to stop by and get some. I think we might even have some in pink. In the meantime, might I offer you a s'more? A hot dog? Refreshing carbonated beverage?"

"Pink flannel? Omigod that would be totally awesome," she replied, giggling. "Oh, I'm a vegetarian but I would love a s'smore and a diet pop. Can I help you do anything because I'm just sitting here with nothing to do. Do you ever get bored camping? What kind of fun things do you guys do around here?" She saw a lot of campfires and just ground. Where was the fun stuff?

"Here," Turtle said, starting to hand over a bag of marshmallows and a stick, "toast your own, unless you think that'll only result in burning down the camp. And as for fun, I guess some people would say something like Caritas, the bar, or working in the salle or with something like the reserves, but a lot of people are just content to go and see what everyone else is doing in a common room or at a campfire or something. Half the time, so much weird stuff is going on that just sitting around is a nice change."

Elle took the stick, poked it through a marshmallow, and began to toast it. "Caritas I will try one evening but I'm not familiar with a salle and by that you mean a room of some sort? I nearly forget about the weird since I haven't come in contact with any yet." She grinned. "I almost have to doubt it exists here." Elle spoke cheerfully as she toasted, turning her stick this way and that.

"It seems to be laying low to lure all the newbies into a false sense of security," Turtle said with a smirk. "Some of them anyway. Bobby's roommate's already turned into a cat, so him and Kate, his roommate, are already indoctrinated. And the salle's down by the gun range. It's just a big place for people to practice with swords and stuff like that. There're a lot of fighters here."

"Is that what it does?" Elle asked, clearly amused, clearly skeptical. "Alex mentioned someone turning into an animal. I'm not sure how that is even possible, not that I'm doubting -" not totally at least "- but wow, right? Seems super fairy tale like." Blink. "A lot of people learning to fight or those merely honing their fencing abilities?" Elle knew some schools taught fencing.

"A combination of both?" Turtle tried. "It's kind of funny you said fairy tale, because you'll find that some of your classmates kind of are from some. I mean, we had a unicorn a while back. A unicorn. It was pretty awesome."

Elle seemed like a girl who could appreciate a unicorn, right?

"A unicorn? Omigod no way! Was it white with a rainbow horn?"

What?

"...uh, no," Turtle said, after a moment of wondering what Jan would have thought about that and trying not to just die laughing. "He had a black coat and a black horn, and very majestic."

He'd also been really cute when he was a human, too, but that didn't seen relevant. It was still weird thinking that you could have had a crush on a unicorn.

"A majestic unicorn," she said on a reverent breath of air. "Totally amazing. Did you talk to him? Pet him? How did that even work?" The awe was overruling her skeptical intellectual senses, not that she minded or even gave clear thought about it.

A unicorn had been here.

"Even better," Turtle said with a laugh, partly just because of Elle's reaction. "I hired him to work at my store."

"No way omigod! Oh, Turtle, you've truly been touched. You're like super special. What did he do at your store? If you say gave free rides to those that came in I am going to be so jealous. Why isn't he still here?" Elle would think about actually believing all of this later.

Turtle took a moment to look at Elle and wonder if she meant touched and super special in those ways, but decided not to be concerned with it because she knew she was right and Elle would find that out in due time, oh yes. "He worked the register and helped stock the shelves, mostly. I modified one so that he could use it with his horn. And I think he left just because he never really felt like he fit in or was comfortable here. You know. Being a unicorn and all.
