There's been a lot of running around today, in and out of a carwash, down to town and back, and checking in with the Magic Reserves, and Dinah got back to the dorms without grabbing dinner. The smells wafted her down to the Common Room, her mouth watering.
"Fooooooooooooooooooood." She caught sight of George and grinned. "Did you do this? If you did you are my new most favorite person ever."
"Then I guess I'm your new most favorite person ever!" George responded, grinning. "I did make it, yeah. And there's dessert in the freezer. Rosewater-lime sorbetto."
"Eeee!" Dinah squeezed George's shoulder fast before hurrying over to the food, and dishing up a burger with cheddar and 'shrooms, tomato, yummm, and lots of peppers, then grabbed a drink and flopped down next to George, beaming at him, feeling all kinds of affectionate and squeeze-the-George. "You rule." She bit into the burger with a sigh of relief and nearly rolled her eyes in happiness. "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm."
"That good?" George said, laughing. The physical contact was... nice. Very niche. He found himself responding to it a little more than he was used to -- just the moon, he told himself. Nothing more than that.
"Mmm-hmmm," Dinah nodded, eyes wide, licking juice off her fingers as the tomato dripped out of the bun. "I was running through a car wash today, then biked all over, and I had an energy bar but this is so much better. Mmph." She bumped his knee with hers, playfully, and grinned, settling back into the sofa next to him contentedly. She popped a pepper into her mouth. "So how've you been since alligators? Did you watch out the window at all?"
George shuddered at the alligators -- that, at least, is what he told himself, although the thrill was half from the knee bump, and from watching her lick the juice off her fingers. "No, not at all," he admitted. "I just holed up and ignored it."
"George," she chided, tilting her head back as she looked at him. "Next time. You have to. You gotta, you know. What's that thing, where you expose yourself to an allergen, or a poison, and then get used to it?" Dinah took a slurp of her drink. "Acclimate! That's the word, right? You have to be exposed to the danger and get used to it, and then it'll be all la la la no worries. Promise. Mmmmm." Foooooood. Comfy. Still warm in here, though. Hmmm.
Dinah bumped his knee again, then reached over to pat his head, which turned into hair-stroking for a second. Just comforting, really. "Seriously, you're doing good. I threw up, on my first invasion. And I kept flailing about stuff for weeks." She settled back in, her shoulder brushing against his, and took another happy bite of her burger. "And now look at me! Well, everyone who's here, really. It's adaptation. Inevitable. Inexorable."
And too warm in here. Dinah ditched the blouse she had on over her tank top, and sighed in relief. Whew. Much better.
"It is! I swear, I thought the air conditioning was broken all day," Dinah responded, bouncing a little in agreement, then stretching out her legs to try and get them to cool off too. "I mean, gorgeous, wonderful, sunny, zingy day, but just a little too warm everywhere. Do you swim?"
And now she was hungry again. She reached over and appropriated one of his peppers, taking quick bites while she considered seconds.
"Very very!" Dinah smiled at him, and took a bunch more pepper slices and mushrooms, looking only slightly guilty. "Thank you, George. Did I say that before?"
"Second time you've fed me," Dinah said, slipping her sandals off, and looking thoughtful. "I really should pay you back. But the only thing I can do that's even close is stir-fry. Not really comparable." She took a long sip of her drink, eyes closed, still feeling too warm.
"Fooooooooooooooooooood." She caught sight of George and grinned. "Did you do this? If you did you are my new most favorite person ever."

Oh, the irony.
He considered trying to ward her off, but just held out his plate, instead. "Hungry?"
