Priestly had planned to hide in his room. But then his mom had called. Confessing just about anything at this school was better than talking to his mom when he couldn't lie, and not answering the first three times she'd called had started to grate.
So he was avoiding his room and the phone.
He had a flying squirrel on his head. Ramone needed some out of the room time, too.
"And you're....Priestly?" she remembered, waving. "I remember you because you're like a male Claudia, with the clothes and the hair and wow I wish I had the balls to do that to my appearance."
That was kind of an embarrassing thing to say. If you were Sookie.
"I know," Sookie said with a grin. "It's okay, that's kinda normal for guys, and most of the time I can block it out. Today's fun, though, since y'all are just saying whatever you're thinking anyway."
"Fun. Today is fun. I managed to find out that a handful of girls are crushing on me, the guy who looks like me has been fantasizing about having sex with me, explained in lurid detail how to have sex to a fairy tale prince, called the girl I like a ditz, and told my teacher my first name is --" He cut himself off, but she probably heard the wailed BOAZ through his head, anyway. "Today sucks."
"That's a horrible first name. No wonder you go by your surname," Sookie replied, shaking her head. "If it's any comfort, I'm getting real sick of people saying my name sucky but I can't really blame them because that's what it sounds like."
"Yeah, it kinda does, but with a slightly different vowel sound. Please don't tell anyone that's my name. I'm trying very, very hard to distance myself from being . . . that guy."
"Cross my heart," she said with a small smile. "Unless someone asks me about it, you know, today. And even then I'll bite a pillow or something, I guess!"
So he was avoiding his room and the phone.

"Hey. Sookie, right?"
