Second Floor Common Room, Wednesday Evening

Nov 12, 2008 17:58

Nine o'clock found Tony in his usual Wednesday night spot on the couch, along with half a bomb bottle of Coke and a bag of microwave popcorn he'd snagged from the third floor.

There hadn't been a new episode last week because of the American elections. This week, if Tony remembered right, should be the one with the immortal French monk.

Amber kitty slept more than Amber normally did, which was saying quite a lot. Bored as hell and not really wanting to disturb her napping, Cal went looking for interesting people in common rooms.

The floor below his looked a bit too interesting for his tastes right now, so he kept going down one more and found the second floor a little more suited to his needs.

"Hey, Tony," he flopped on a couch. "What's on?"

"Darkest Night," Tony said, offering Cal the bag of popcorn.

Cal easily reached for a handful. "Is it as bad as that Rumor Gal show I walked in on the other day?"

Tony considered that. "Different kind of bad, I think," he said. "Darkest Night's a vampire detective show. The back-stabbing tends to be more literal."

"Vampire detective show," Cal repeated, and then let out a little groan, sinking deeper into the couch. "Oh, God. I knew this guy in junior high who was making a vampire film about vampires in prep school. Suddenly, my mind is like Rumor Gal and this show bound up into one to make Jerome's movie."

And today was just a great big Jerome filled day, now wasn't it? How nice to be reminded of him at every turn today...ugh.

Tony tried to picture this. "You know, if that was a real show, I bet that Brooklyn family would turn out to be demons." Not that he watched Rumor Gal.

Okay, maybe once or twice when he was bored. Really bored.

"I only just saw it for the first time this week," Cal said, "so I don't know who that is. All I remember is the adorably bitchy brunette, and the blonde with the boobs and the 'legs of a warhorse.'"

God, Cal loved that phrases. Aravis would be his favorite person for a while now thanks to that.

"I didn't notice them," Tony admitted. "A girl has legs like a horse?" That didn't sound very attractive.

"Warhorse," Cal corrected, and gave Tony a grin for his tone. "Not literally, of course. Purely a metaphor."

"Oh, I figured," Tony said. He still wasn't sure how comparisons to that part of a horse's anatomy would be flattering, but maybe it was a heterosexual thing. "Is your girlfriend still a kitten?" he asked, changing the subject. He remembered seeing her at rehearsal.

"Uhh.."

Well, that was awkward.

"We're not dating anymore," Cal said, eyes shifting away.

"Not," he added, "because she turned into a kitten. I'm pretty sure it's just a temporary thing. Her being a kitten."

"Oh, sorry," Tony said. "You're still, uh, kitten-sitting her, though?"

"Well, yeah," Cal shrugged a shoulder. "We're still friends and everything, and that's what friends do."

Tony nodded. Henry'd look after him if anything happened, though turning into animals was pretty rare in Vancouver. At least, as far as he knew. "I get that. My ex is still a good friend," he said.

"Yeah?" Cal asked, looking a little worried. "That sort of thing does really work out sometimes, then? I...I've never really had a...relationship or anything close to it where I was still in regular contact with the other person, so it's kind of new to me. Hell, even officially dating someone in the first place was new to me..."

"So far it's worked," Tony said. "My ex is kinda overprotective. But he's back in Vancouver now, so it's easier."
