Mac peeked over his shoulder at what he was doing as she searched out a mug. "Lunch already?"

Occasionally her mun she thought it was a good idea to actually leave her room. In this case, even her own floor. It was ostensibly to get coffee, but she could fit some form of socialization into that.

"Yeah," Hurley said. "You want a sandwich? They're, like, extra cheesy."

Mac shook her head, offering him a little smile. "I'm into my bad 'not eating until mid-afternoon' habits," she told him. "It's difficult to actually get out of."

"But, nice of you to offer," she added politely. "I'll have coffee ready in a minute if you're into that?"

"Dude," Hurley said. "That can't be healthy. The... not eating thing, I mean."

"I had breakfast," Mac assured him. "It's really not as bad as it sounds."

"Oh, okay," Hurley said. "That's totally different. I was worried, for a second."

Mac smiled a bit wider. There was something rather comforting about people you didn't even know thinking about your well-being. "Well, you don't have to."

"I'm Mac," she added after a beat, feeling like she really should.

"Hurley," he said. "You live on this floor? I don't think I've run into you before."

"One down," Mac replied, gesturing towards the floor. "Wandering up a floor is me branching out. Or trying."

"Like Columbus. Or... something," Hurley said. "You sure you don't want a sandwich? Or... toast?"

Mac shook her head. "There's bound to be cookies to go with my coffee somewhere around," she said, peering into another cupboard.

"So, how long have you been here and I've managed not to meet you?"

"Three years," Hurley joked, just to see if he could pull it off. The silly grin on his face would give him away, though.

Mac smirked. "Even I haven't been here that long," she said with a disbelieving shake of her head.

"Nice try, though."

"Yeah, I'm new," Hurley said. "This is my first semester here."

"Ah." Mac grinned. Oh newbies. "Settling in?" she asked.

"Oh, definitely," Hurley said. "Pulling two jobs, surviving my classes, doin' pretty good, I tihnk."
