Karal spoke quietly to Solaris when he saw Dean, and then stood up to walk over to him. "Dean, you're just the person I was hoping to see. There's someone that you must meet."
"No!" Karal said quickly, and Altra's eyes widened. "No, that is the Son of The Sun, head of the Kin and ruler of Karse. I would like to introduce you; she is your ultimate spiritual leader. But Dean," he hesitated, "best behaviour, please?"
Dean looked at the woman more closely. "Wow, so that's like if you were a Catholic priest, having the Pope drop by for tea, huh?" He grinned at Karal. "Guess you must be doing something right."
"It is exactly like that," Karal confirmed, sounding just a little bit worried, but he had to grin at Dean. "She said that someone should be here for me. Come and meet her, Dean. It's important."
Karal took a deep breath. "Solaris, I present to you Dean Winchester, demon hunter, who is of the Kin." He couldn't keep the pride out of his voice as he said the words. "Dean, this is Solaris, Sun of The Son and the head of the Kin."
Solaris stood to greet him, something she hadn't done for anyone else. "Today, you can call me Solaris," she said, studying Dean. Hansa by her feet was doing the same. "It is a very great pleasure to meet you, Dean Winchester, and to welcome you to the Kin. We are made stronger, wiser, and better for your presence." The words were tradition, ritual, and they sounded it as Solaris spoke them, but behind the rote words was a tone of welcome, and of gladness.
"Not as often as you'd think." She folded her hands behind her back, still studying Dean. "Karal has told me some of what you and your family do, hunting demons and keeping people who do not even know of their existence from harm. I would like you to tell me why you do it, if you would."
"My mom was killed by a demon when I was little. So I know what it feels like to have your life torn apart by them." He shrugged. "I can't change what happened to my mom, but I can help keep other families from going through what we did."
"I am deeply sorry for your loss, Dean," she said, bowing her head in brief prayer. "And I am even prouder to have you as part of the Kin, knowing your reasons." She glanced briefly at Altra, and so at Karal. "Karal has told me some of what happened here, with the demon you call Yellow Eyes. I've no doubt he has extended this invitation to you before, but I wish to formally offer you and your family sanctuary in Karse, should you ever need it. The work you do will make you a target; the Sunlord will protect you, and so will we."
