This was not Hannibal's floor but his floor was quiet and the only thing quiet was good for was sleeping or recovering from a hangover.

"Finally. A real live person."

"Have you been encountering any other kind?" she asked mildly, raising a brow.

"I've been encountering no on," he said emphatically. "I'm happy to see civilization."

Of course, he'd spent most of the time sleeping and hadn't looked in the right places for people.

Susan gave him an odd look. "This is hardly lacking for civilization," she said, looking around and gesturing slightly. "And we're in a building full of people. Have you just arrived?"

"...you're very literal," Hannibal said with a small smile. "And no, I arrived yesterday."

He knew what she meant. It was just fun to be a smartass.

"I am not," she protested. "I simply know an uncivilized world when I see one."

"So do I," he replied. "I used to play with Legos and then pretend to blow up my pretend city when I was bored. If you wanna see desolation and uncivilized, well, those Lego men were pretty damn wild after that."

"Were you more a Lincoln Logs kinda girl?" Hannibal asked. "Building cabins and schools?"

She frowned, trying to follow the strange words. "...are you talking about toys? Blocks?"

He tapped his nose. "Got it in one. I'm talking about blocks, yeah."

"Why would you let go of your blocks?" she asked in confusion.

Hannibal tilted his head. "Let go of my blocks? The only reason I'd let go of them is if I was flinging them at someone."

"You said you let go of them," she argued, playing the conversation back. "And said something about linking them."

"No, Lego. Lego. One word. It's a brand of blocks. They're brightly colored blocks that snap together and hurt like a motherfucker when you step on them," Hannibal said eloquently.

Susan nearly stood up, but barely contained her composure. "I beg your pardon, sir. You'd do well to watch your language while in the company of ladies."

Perhaps she'd misheard.
