Second floor common room, Thursday night

It was summer, it was a week without classes, and they were still in Antarctica. Yes, Brooke was still pouting. Not only that, but when she plopped herself in the common room with a blanket and popcorn to veg out, she found the Travel Channel was showing a whole lot of beach programming

"Trying to think warm thoughts?" Dick asked, walking into the common room and glancing at the TV.

"Thinking I need to take pictures from the window and send an angry Email to the Travel Channel about their timing," Brooke said.

"Send them a rabid penguin from me, too," Dick suggested.

[gobrooke_urself]

"I think you might have to work on that one yourself," she said immediately. "But I'll have the clinic on speed dial for you."

"You know, I think I'll just pay somebody twenty bucks to do it for me," Dick said. "But keep your phone handy, just in case."

"Person I room with," Ned said, nodding at Dick. "Good to see you're not a rock anymore."

"Hey Ned," Dick said. "I never thanked you for making sure I was safe that weekend. I appreciate it."

"Oh, no problem," Ned said, resisting the urge to scuff his feet. "I almost took you with me but didn't want you falling out on the way or something. And closets protected you better than I ever could."

"Doctor Frederic Wertham disagrees about closets. No, it was definitely a good call. I doubt I could've helped much, being a rock and all."

"Unless somebody needed something to throw."

"I ran into a Sphinx," Ned said, thinking about it. "I think she would've eaten you if I'd had thrown you. And then I'd have felt terrible."

"The key is to not throw your roommate at the sphinx's mouth," Dick said. "If we're ever in that situation, aim for the leg."

"Her leg was pretty big," Ned said, frowning in thought. "Wouldn't that just make her angry?"

"Not if you hit her in just the right place," Dick said. "Hit anyone right and they'll go down."

Huh. He'd never thought of it that way.

"Next time," Ned decided. "You didn't trip over anything in the closet, right? I mean, when you got big again."

"Well, I fell over, but I got out okay," Dick said. "No bruises or anything."

"Oh, good." Not that Ned had hoped otherwise but he'd never woken up in a closet before. "I'm glad I didn't put you in a drawer."
