Second floor common room, Thursday night

It was summer, it was a week without classes, and they were still in Antarctica. Yes, Brooke was still pouting. Not only that, but when she plopped herself in the common room with a blanket and popcorn to veg out, she found the Travel Channel was showing a whole lot of beach programming

Ned wandered down the hall to hopefully spend a quiet night not in his room. Instead, he found someone in the common room and she was talking to the television.

"It doesn't talk back." She might not know that.

"Yeah, but it makes me feel better," she said, grabbing another handful of popcorn. It wasn't like she needed to be in bikini shape anyway.

"Talking to an inanimate object makes you feel better?" Ned asked.

[gobrooke_urself]

"When the inanimate object sucks, it does," she explained, thinking this made perfect sense. "Since kicking it might make the school mad at me enough to pay for repairs."

"So...you're aiming to get in trouble?" Ned asked slowly.

[gobrooke_urself]

"No, that's why I'm not kicking it," she said. Though now she knew someone could break her out, yay. "Maybe I'll throw a scrunchie instead."

"Is it just televisions you have something against or...all things?" Ned asked curiously.

[gobrooke_urself]

"The Travel Channel taunting me about the weather," she said, not getting why anyone wouldn't immediately jump to that conclusion.

"There's a Travel Channel?" Ned asked, frowning at the television.

[gobrooke_urself]

"Yeah," Brooke said. "Where have you been? Besides not in front of the TV?"

[death_and_pies]

"Uh. Boarding school," he answered, shrugging. "We didn't have a television."

[gobrooke_urself]

"Did they hate you?" she asked immediately. That was just wrong.

[death_and_pies]

"Well." Ned thought they did but he wasn't going to share that. "Um. Maybe it was just hidden or something. I just never watched it."

[gobrooke_urself]

"And you didn't just devour it when you got here?" she said. "I would have had to at least catch up on my soaps."

[death_and_pies]

"I really didn't miss it much," Ned admitted. "I never watched a lot of television. It was...kind of boring when I was younger."

[gobrooke_urself]

"Please tell me it at least helped your social life," she said, though she managed to juggle both. Not everyone could.
