Little Dipper Living Room: Wednesday Afternoon

May 23, 2008 10:24

The day had started early for Worf. While he'd never admit how special the day was to himself, he planned to at least celebrate in his own way. Despite the rain there had been a successful hunting trip through the preserve. Worf had to skip the part of roasting it over an open fire but using a modified phaser setting was able to cook it without ( Read more... )

Alice was enticed by the smell into walking closer. She raised an eyebrow over the intricate feast laid out inside the cabin, and leaned against the open window, amused.

"To what do we owe the honor?"

"I went hunting," Worf replied. "Come. Eat."

It was a brusque invitation, but an invitation nonetheless, and the food smelled delightful. Perhaps the future wasn't as big on formality. She could understand that.

Alice walked into the living room and looked around. "Do you hunt often?" she asked. "No one in my cabin seems to bring back fresh kills."

"When the urge strikes," Worf admitted. "Today seemed like a good day to test my skills. Most humans don't seem to like hunting where I'm from."

"Perhaps they've never tried it," Alice said, considering. "Or they might be the squeamish sort. Something about innards makes many people somewhat unnerved, I've found."

Not Alice, but Alice didn't count for 'most people' in any century, it would seem.

"Most humans are too squeamish for the innards," Worf admitted. "However if you do like that you must try the heart of targ. Actually it's just from the deer, but the taste is similar."

"I don't usually eat innards," she admitted, sitting and smoothing her petticoats. "But it does seem a waste to only use the meat, and the choice bits at that. I suspect some of that is what goes into blood pudding."

Worf gave her an amused look.

For some people it would be pretty scary looking.

"Most humans aren't that enlightened."

"I think that might be consistent across time and space," she said dryly. "Most humans take a real effort not to be enlightened, and to spout nonsense at all times."

"I find that to happen on a regular occurrence," Worf quickly agreed. "Even being raised by humans, I still find them... surprising."

"Being one hasn't lent me much insight," she confessed. "I still find most to be confusing and strange. But if there's something I might assist you with, please do let me know."

"There is one thing," Worf replied. "On the storage disc you sold me, I am unfamiliar with the concept of living it up while going down. They are two separate actions and directions."

"I beg your pardon?" Alice asked, frowning. "Living it up ... and going down?"

She vaguely recalled something about Aerosmith, and their rather loud (and thoroughly unseemly, which seemed a point in their favor to Alice) music.

"An elevator," she remembered. "That song featured one prominently, didn't it? It's a device that moves one vertically between floors."

She had found herself compelled to research, yes.

"Yes," Worf replied. "Though I don't see what love has to do with that."

"Neither do I," Alice confessed. "Though it adequately covers the changing motion and direction. Clearly the singer's been trapped on the elevator device as it moves up and down several stories."

"For some reason I thought it was not mentioned to be taken literally," Worf frowned.
