Third Floor Common Room: Sunday Morning

Apr 27, 2008 09:15

It had been a long night and for some reason the kids were early risers. So it was a pretty groggy Mel who dragged her kids down the hallway and started setting them up with bowls of cereal and turned on TV in the hopes that it would keep them occupied until the coffee began to work.

"Ron. Seriously. It's a potted plant. Stop hugging it."

Jordin ran ahead into the common room, smirking back at her dad, "See! I told you I knew the way."

"Yep, you sure told me," John sighed, not pointing out that they were not on the floor they'd started at. "How 'bout I make you some breakfast and you can watch TV?"

"But I wanna help cook," Jordin pouted, looking up at her dad with big, brown eyes.

"Oh, that is so not a fair use of the pout. We're going to have to talk about when we use our eyes to get our way," John decided, leading the way into the kitchen area. "But, yes, fine you can help."

"Me, too!" Jaryd exclaimed, bouncing behind them.

"No, you can't cook if you're bouncing, it's a rule!" Jordin told her little brother. "Right, dad?"

John really didn't know what he'd gotten himself into when he'd offered to get food for the kids.

"Okay, okay. No bouncing in the kitchen," he started setting out bowls for cereal. "Jordin, you get spoons from that drawer, and Jaryd, you can get the napkins."

Jordin was following directions when she reached into the Force to call the spoons to her. "Here, daddy! Can I have the chocolate cereal?"

Jaryd wasn't about to be one-upped, so he reached out his hand and concentrated, causing a stack of napkins to fly through the air and mostly go all over the place. Hey, one got to him, so that was a victory right there.

Oh, Jedi children. John shook his head and looked down at the napkins papering the floor. "Okay, while we clean this up, you can tell me who taught you about chocolate cereal."

Jaryd was distracted by something shiny on the television and wandered off, leaving Jordin to help her dad. "You let us have it when we visit Grandpa Anakin. You say everyone needs a little sugar to counteract the spice."

"Well, that's really nice of me," John said, deciding it couldn't hurt too much to ask about the possible future. "Tell me, how many grandpa's do you guys have?"

"Uhh," Jordin put her little stack of napkins down and looked up at him. "There's Grandpa Han who we get to see lots, and Grandpa Anakin who we visit here, and also...well, I'm not supposed to know." She seemed a little sorry that she did.

"Something I don't like talking about?" John guessed, not incredibly thrilled with his older alternate self.

"Uh huh. I only know 'cause I found pictures, but you don't like it when I look at those," Jordin said.

"Yeah, am I really old and cranky back home?" John asked trying to tease, wondering how he'd gotten to the point where he didn't even tell his own kids about his family.

Jordin laughed, "You say mommy's old and cranky 'cause she's older than you with timewarp, but you're silly 'cause she looks the same here as she does at home."

"The same?" John had hoped these were future children. "How old is daddy?"
