And if it just ended up being Ferris? Well, more pizza for him.

Liir was here, a bit of whipped cream behind his ear that he'd missed.

"I think you missed a spot while you were shaving," Ferris said, having caught a glimpse of the cream and mistaken it for shaving cream.

He blinked and turned to smile at Ferris.

"I don't shave," he said, patting his cheek before his finger brushed against the offending bit of creme. He popped it into his mouth thoughtfully.

"Oh. One of the desserts fell on my head," he explained.

"You should get an umbrella for that. One of the heavy duty ones. A lightweight umbrella could probably handle coconut sorbet, but I don't think it'd stand up to profiteroles."

He shrugged.

"I caught some earlier," he admitted. "I wanted a better idea of what it was since it was very good."

"Most dessert is. It's the pinnacle of human culinary development. What kind of dessert did you get hammered with?"

"Something made of cream and fruit," he said.

He quirked.

"Though I wouldn't say it's the pinnacle of human culinary development. It's very good, but sometimes dinner is better than dessert. It depends on your mood, your taste for the moment..."

He looked away.

"My apologies for going on."

"No, go on. If you have an argument in favor of dinner, I'm all ears."

"Well, generally," he said, leaning against a convenient wall, "it's more filling. You can eat more dinner and keep body and soul together more easily than if provided only dessert. You can only eat so much before you start to feel ill."

He grinned.

"Though that isn't to say I don't make all manner of desserts to keep in my bag if anyone should need it. A bit of sugar can do a world of betterment sometimes."

"I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, my take on dinner has been tainted by one too many nights of overcooked meatloaf. There's nothing quite like my mother's cooking." He didn't mean that in the good way it was usually intended. "I'd have to say that lunch is the most disappointing of all meals. It's never fulfilling."

He snorted, just a little. Thoughtfully.

"You're eating the wrong kind of lunch, then."

He didn't comment on Ferris's mother. The subject of parents never went well for him.

"You should come by the Book Haven one Friday. I usually make up food to go with the tea and the rest since I'm cooking that morning anyway. I can assure you of no overcooked meatloaf, at least."

"How could I ever pass up the opportunity of free food that isn't from the cafeteria? One Friday soon. I'll have to check my schedule, but I'll be sure to pencil in 'lunch with'...I'm sorry, I've forgotten your name."

"It's been about three months," he said agreeably. "And it's short and easy to forget. Liir. And you're Ferris, yes?"

"You got it in one, Liir. I'll do my best not to forget it again. After all, how can I forget the name of a guy who's offering to feed me?"

"It's easy enough."

Though he didn't sound in the least bit upset at the thought. Just matter-of-fact.

"I do have a question, though."

He waved around.

"Why did you decide to throw a party for April Fools?"

He'd read about the holiday and it sort of puzzled him.
