Gavin wandered up to the roof and frowned at John and his...materials.

"What are you doing?" he finally asked after watching John for a bit.

[missed_the_gate]

"I am testing the strength of bubble wrap," John said, tossing some at Gavin. "Pop some, I dare you to be able to stop."

[sixstandingby]

Gavin caught the bubble wrap in one hand and eyed it critically. "You gotta be on the roof to test it? Is it affected by altitude?"

[missed_the_gate]

"No, I'm gonna wrap stuff in it and drop it off the roof," John looked over the edge to ensure he'd picked an area where no one would get hit.

[sixstandingby]

"Ooooh." Now, he was interested. Destruction was always fun. "What're you gonna wrap?"

[missed_the_gate]

"Stuff that would normally break," John said, pulling a heavy glass candle holder with candle out of his bag. "Like this."

[sixstandingby]

"Can I help?" Gavin asked, popping a few of the bubbles. "We never got to do this stuff on Tatooine. Drop stuff into sand and it just sinks."

[missed_the_gate]

"Yes, but you have to help me clean it up when we're done," John told him, already wrapping the candle in some large bubble wrap and taping it securely.

"Think it'll land safely or explode?" It was an experiment, so naturally they had to make a prediction before the drop.

"Explode," Gavin said after a moment. "Because of the glass."

[missed_the_gate]

"Yes, its mass and the height of the roof give the jar a good deal of potential energy," John nodded seriously.

He grinned as he dropped the wrapped candle. "Besides, explosions are cooler."

[sixstandingby]

"And more attention worthy," Gavin said, peering over the edge and watching the candle holder fall. "Come on! Break!"

That amount of bubble wrap was not enough to support the candle, allowing it to shatter easily into large chunks upon hitting the ground below.

"Awesome!" John was excited to see the bubble wrap fail.

[sixstandingby]

"Ha!" Gavin leaned over the side slightly, laughing. "Too bad candle holder! You had no chance!"

"What next? More candles, dvds, remote controls?" John's bag was filled with moddable dorm room items.

"Do you have..." Gavin peered into the bag. "Oooh, toaster!"

"I came prepared," John said, grabbing up some bubble wrap and popping it.
