Second Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

Mar 17, 2008 17:32

Savannah's letter from the past, and his conversation with her earlier today, had convinced Anders that there was something he had to do tonight that he hadn't done in a long, long time. And he was really past due for doing it.

So yes, that's right, he was in the common room with mixing bowls, baking tins, and a whole lot of boxes of cake batter ( Read more... )

"Hi," Annette said as she walked on in. "I'm not on my floor at all but that doesn't matter right? I smelled something yummy."

"Yes, I'm totally checking the directory for floor alliances when people come in, Annette," Anders teased. "And then I'm ignoring them."

She answered by sticking her tongue out at him and walked forward, into the kitchen. "I'm not going to be picky but one with lots and lots of sprinkles would be lovely."

Anders stuck his tongue out right back, because it was the Thing To Do. "I got a ton of the little green clovery sprinkles, so that's what most of them have," he said as he scurried to finish frosting the batch on the counter and then apply said sprinkles. She'd said 'lots and lots,' so by the time he was done with this particular batch he'd gone through two jars of sprinkles and you couldn't even see the frosting on three or four of the cupcakes. "Is that up to your standards?"

She watched him, grinning the whole time. "Yes! Perfect! Can I have two? Cause it was my birthday Saturday and I didn't get cake. But I can eat two, probably three, but two'll work."

Anders's jaw dropped, and his face took on an incredibly guilty expression. "I missed your birthday? Aw, geez, Annette! I suck!"

Also there had been that whole freaky angel thing, but you know, details.

"No worries, this last week was a bit hard on everyone, you know?" Still, she suffered a bit of sadness over it. She was used to cake and all that stuff. But angels and disappearing people; it all sort of put perspective in order.

"You might suck though if you tell me I can't have two cupcakes," she teased him, grinning.

"Annette, if you told me you wanted a whole tray you could have it," Anders assured her. "Because I'm still pretty sure I could probably build a fort with the boxes of cake mix I've got stocked up. And I'll get you a present this week, promise."

"Pfft," she waved her hand and grabbed two cupcakes. "Don't you even worry about it. This is great, just these cupcakes. I could eat cupcakes forever until my ass got so fat I couldn't drag it around anymore."

"Not worried about it," insisted Anders. "Guilting over it is completely different!"

"Well... no guilting, cause I said," she replied, trying to look firm, but most likely failing.

"Fine, no guilting." Anders stuck his tongue out at her again. "Just guilt-free present buying. So nyeah."

Adah would truly be disappointed in her ability to be Adah, Ecirp Nelle Hada, if she didn't take a moment to send a cool, calculated sort of glance, heavy eyelids, quirked eyebrow, over toward Annette before popping another piece of cupcake into her mouth. She continued to watch the other girl with a thoughtful expression as she chewed. Thoughtful, without having much thought behind it besides the potential unnerving of the other girl, but, really, filling her head with empty, nonexistent thoughts. Didn't that just put her in line with everyone else for a change?

Annette noticed Adah, how could she not? Even when the other girl didn't speak, her presence seemed over powering at best.

Okay, to Annette it did, only for the mere fact that there were secrets that she had yet to uncover. Thing was, and she would tell Adah this if they were alone, that she didn't care anymore. She didn't need to know what went on, if anything. It was none of her business. She lived with being curious almost every single day. So there. And maybe Adah wasn't even thinking about their last encounter. Maybe Adah was just looking thoughtful just to look thoughtful.

She quirked a brow back, and shoved a good sized bite of cupcake with extra sprinkles on it, in her mouth.

Interestingly enough, if there was anything of actual thoughts in that faux thoughtful expression, it certainly was about their last encounter. If it weren't for their last encounter, Adah wouldn't have bothered noticing Annette at all.

She met the quirked eyebrow with a loftily intrigued tilt of her head, as if beckoning Annette to just come out and say something. If, that was, she had anything interesting to say.

Most likely Annette didn't have anything interesting to say. And currently her mouth was full of cupcake. It was hard though, perhaps a challenge, to not look away from Adah. What was the girl thinking? What did she want? Why was she looking at her that way?

Hmm...

Licking her lips, Annette lifted her chin slightly and asked without, of course, expecting an answer, "How's Hopper?" Which isn't exactly what she wanted to ask if she had to admit to herself, but Adah certainly didn't need to know that.
