Second Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

Savannah's letter from the past, and his conversation with her earlier today, had convinced Anders that there was something he had to do tonight that he hadn't done in a long, long time. And he was really past due for doing it.

So yes, that's right, he was in the common room with mixing bowls, baking tins, and a whole lot of boxes of cake batter

Makoto had been considering going for a walk now that it was safe, but the smells coming from the common room on the floor below caught 'her' attention.

'She' poked her head in. "What're you making?"

"Cupcakes!" Anders said brightly; maybe a touch too brightly, but he was determined to try and keep from getting too flaily over the events of the past week. "You're welcome to 'em if you want, and there's more in the oven now."

'She' slipped further into the common room. "They do smell good," Makoto admitted, "are they hard to make?"

"Nah, not really." Anders shrugged one shoulder, electing to omit any mention of his first few mishaps, and those had really been more messy than anything else. "Just follow the instructions on the box, tweak the time a little bit when you bake 'em, oh, and make sure you get more batter in the little paper cups than on the pan or it's a world of tears trying to get 'em out again. It's kinda thera -- what's the word? Therapeutic. Not to mention tasty."

"Therapeutic is good," 'she' agreed, "though, admittedly, I find tasty to be even better. I'll have to try making them sometime."

"Hey, there's a thought," Anders said. "We could do a baking party sometime."

[notreallyagirl]

"That'd be a fun thing to do," Makoto grinned, "and the amount of cupcakes that'd be made would feed Fandom for days possibly."

"And then," Anders added, laughing, "nobody would sleep for days, and we'd all be bouncing off the walls."

[notreallyagirl]

"We should do that next break," 'she' said, giggling, "because I think the teachers would mutiny if we tried that while classes were in session."

"Especially since half the school went missing last week," Anders added, frowning for just a moment. "We're enough of a handful as it is without all being hyped up. Actually, that's kind of a really frakkin' scary thought."

[notreallyagirl]

"That's true," Makoto said, glancing down for a moment, "but how 'bout this, then? The next crisis we've got? Can be the adults dealing with us all on sugar-highs. That'd be a better sort of crisis for sure."

[cantgetnorelief]

"Hmm," Anders said, peering into the oven. "That totally depends. You know, one of these days I get this feeling people around here are gonna face something that can only be defeated by a massive group sugar-high, but with my luck that'll be after I'm gone."

Bah. Thinking about leaving was kind of a downer, so he compensated by helping himself to a handful of sprinkles and eating them.

"Hmmmm. Well, maybe not," Makoto said, raising an eyebrow at the sprinkle eating but helping himself to a cupcake so, yeah, couldn't really talk. "How long are you still here for?"

"Until the end of this semester and maybe part of the summer," Anders replied. "I haven't decided yet. I also kind of fail at introductions. I'm Anders."

Makoto had to grin at that. "I'm Makoto, and you're better at introductions than I am. I managed to get myself hired on at the bookstore and it wasn't until the end of the interview that Miss Millie and I realized that I'd never given my name."

"Better than getting all your paychecks addressed to 'hey you,' though, isn't it?" Anders grinned.
