In the early hours of the morning, the flowers that had been purchased through the Student Council were delivered.
By the time the deliveries were done, Sam was pretty sure that if he never saw another flower again, it would be too soon.

She tiptoed back into the room for a vase - borrowed from Fina for just this occasion, it was handy to be giving gifts to your roommate that way - and ducked down into the bathroom to fill it with water.
All of the flowers fit and made a very nice assortment for his desk, where he could enjoy it when he woke up. For now, Naminé was going to crawl back into bed and deposit a light kiss on his cheek.
"Happy birthday," she murmured softly before drifting off to sleep herself.
(Forgive the tl;dr, and the roomie was modded with permission. ♥)

That did not mean he was expecting the one that was delivered to him that morning.
He stared at it. He blinked at it. He smelled it. Smelled real. He read the note.

And then she brought the flowers in (!!!) and looked at the cards and bounced and then she totally put a couple of them in her hair, no, not all the same color, were you crazy? The blue one from Romeo and the the red from ... hmm. Somebody and one of the orange bouquet from ... uh ... Al Bhed!? Seriously?
... Lulu wouldn't have written a message like that. What the ...
So it was a very confused and hyper Rikku that was going to squee and bounce more and then trot along to ethics, with a few flowers jammed into her hair. And the rest crammed into a vase. HOORAY, VALENTINE'S!

Doom shot his flower with a mystic blast.
Doom had no more flower.
He left the remains outside his door as a warning to all other flowers that might attempt to be delivered. He didn't have the time or patience to deal with an American greeting card holiday. This fate would befall any flower that dared to be delivered to Doom.
