Why was Adah even up right now, and not even in the sense of being awake, but out of bed, in a coat, limping out the front door of the dorms? Consider it her body preparing itself for the weekend; she was also leaning toward blaming the snow itself in general. One of these days, she might reconnect with the idea of snow existing, but she discovered that today was not one of those days, blinking in the brightness that it gave the world, wincing slightly at the screaming white, and mostly just staring as she hung back close to the building to watch the large flakes drifting down and the collection of people, like chaos, disrupting the muted beauty.
Ino looked down at her latest snowball and then at Adah. Should she? With a shrug, Ino lobbed it at Adah, but gentler than she'd been hitting some of the other people.
Adah's attention was diverted from the intriguing way that the sky seemed to match the flakes dropping down from it, like it was slowly decaying away, little flecks of remains, shards, like perfectly crystallized little pieces of pencil sharpening shavings, when she felt something hit her shoulder. There was a slight jump in her skin of surprise as her eyes drifted toward where she'd been hit. Ashes of the snowball clung to the wool of her jacket, and she idly took a second to brush it off before considering the angle in which the snowball had hit her, to follow the assumed line of projectory toward finding the culprit, the fiendish, remorseless soul who threw snow at crippled people.
Ino's laughter was probably a good clue, as she played with the snow. And hey, it wasn't like she'd flung the snowball hard enough to knock her over or anything! She considered tossing another at her.
Adah quirked an eyebrow at Ino, maintaining a cool, unamused sort of expression. It lingered longer than Adah had expected, mostly because it took her longer than she had expected to plan her move. There was a significant problem with a snowball fight that one wouldn't have in say, other forms of assailant frivolity like foodfights. With foodfights, the food was usually at arms length, easily within reach, no straining here. With a snowball fight, it was all scattered at her feet, where she stood towering over her hapless foot soldiers to be lobbed carelessly into the field. And she certainly wasn't the type of person who could easily, casually, just...bend down, scoop some up, ball it together. If she'd try, she'd most likely end up fallen among the snowflakes
( ... )
It was an attempt that made Ino grin encouragingly, "That's the spirit! Isn't this fun?" Followed by another snowball, aimed for just to one side of Adah.
Knowing she had no chance to avoid it, Adah turned her head and put up a shoulder in as if that would block the blow from the next snowball, all the while trying not to be too annoyed with Ino's encouragement. Yes, let's coddle her, because, good for her, she was able to pick up snow and throw it! That's the spirit! Keep it up, and next week, you might even be able to chew solid food!
On the one side, though, her cynicism helped her so that when she did manage to straightened up after bending down to pick up a handful of snow, she put much more effort into trying to get it further. Angle and projectory was calculated with Ino's face in mind; she knew the numbers were right, it was just a matter of it the ability would match up.
Ino wasn't a stationary target of course, but the snowball still grazed her head, and Ino beamed. "Go Adah! You wouldn't believe how many people don't know how to throw a snowball around here!"
The only way Ino was coddling was by not throwing as hard as she could, or by deliberately knocking her down.
Adah looked highly skeptical. How difficult could it be to pick up snow, ball it up, and throw it? Monkeys did just as much with their waste. Still, this time, when Adah leaned down, she decided to stay down. She'd just have to add height to the equation, and maybe she, now smaller and crouched in the snow and trying to keep her balance, would be harder to hit if she took up less space.
Or just a lot easier, but at least the fall wouldn't be as big. She chucked another snowball toward Ino.
Grinning slightly as her carefully used her leg to aid her making her next snowball a bit rounded than her other previous attempts, Adah figured that it was good to hear that, because that was a pretty good indication of just how much she really did.
But she didn't throw this next one. It rolled off her knee and settled in front of her, the first in what might eventually be something, and reached for more snow, began rolling against her leg again.
Ino studied Adah for a moment, wondering if she was going to get another snowball flung at her, before shrugging and bouncing over to see what Adah was doing.
Ino would find herself greeted by another snowball tossed at her, well before Adah's crooked smirk met her. Well, that certainly made that hit a lot easier; how nice of her to come over and offer that. She nodded toward the snowball sitting in front of her, took a moment to lift her hand a few feet above it, leveled it out over a small distance, smoothing out the top of her prospective fortification, before picking up more snow, starting to roll it again.
That was a spluttering laugh from Ino, and she shook her head to dislodge some of the snow from her face. "You enjoy that way too much." She said, grinning. "And a snow fort? I hadn't even thought of that!"
Clearly, she'd been having too much fun running around to think of staying in one spot.
Still grinning lightly, Adah shrugged a shoulder while she kept her eye on the snow she was rolling. Fortification would be important for someone who couldn't exactly depend on physical prowess. She settled the second ball of snow next to the other one before she looked up at Ino again, tilted her head slightly, a silent invitation that would allow the other girl to help if she wanted. For something like this, Adah didn't think she'd be to terribly against some assistance.
Like Ino would turn down the chance to play in the snow. She grinned. "How high, do you think?" Ino looked around at the snow, "there's plenty to use." Since she wasn't adverse to getting it for Adah once they'd used what was nearby.

"Just stockpiling?" Ino asked, "Or something else?"
