Having found it (frosted strawberry) she flopped down in one of the comfy chairs.

"What show is this?"

"This is none other than one of the greatest movies ever," John said geekily. "You know, Space Battles!"

"Uh-huh," Mel said not looking impressed. "What's wrong with the guy in black? He have asthma or something?"

"He's a burn victim," John said. "And amputee. That suit keeps him alive and walking."

"So what? Has he come back to life to take revenge on people who have done him wrong?" Mel asked, having seen one too many slasher films.

"Sadly, no," John replied. "He's just hanging around hoping to turn his son evil like him. Choking people for fun."

"Yeah, they don't exist in my reality," John responded. "They do make fake plastic ones for kids."

"You still haven't killed me," Jim mused. "Even after telling everyone on the radio that you would. I think you like having an arch-nemesis."

Mel shot Jim a glare. "Now isn't the time to be making vampire jokes with me. And if you really want to keep making jokes you better keep your but indoors at night. Understood?"

"Okay," Jim said. He may have enjoyed pushing people with jokes, but he did have a good sense of when to back the hell off. That wasn't regular annoyance. "It's a pretty good new TV season anyway, so there's no real need to go out at night."

"Yeah, right," Mel said rolling her eyes. "Vampires love to sit around and watch soap operas."
