Why yes, that was a motorcycle in the common room. And yes, that was the floor length common room window opened as wide as it would go. And that was in fact a guy dressed in a very nice looking white leather racing suit with orange flames decals on it.

If it looked like he was preparing to do something very stupid in very public area, that was ( Read more... )

"You know, this is ridiculously reckless," Blackheart reminded Blaze with a grin.

Which didn't mean in any way that he was protesting this feat of stupid.

In fact, he was the one who was going to be sitting behind Johnny on the back of the bike.

Johnny was grinning from ear to ear.

" 'S the best kind of reckless," he said. "Think of how impressive it's gonna be to watch."

"I get the best seat," Blackheart reminded him with a smirk.

Riding on the back of a man-made motorcycle.

His father would hate that.

There was a technical term for the seat on the back of the bike that started with the same letter as 'best', but Johnny wasn't going to mention it.

"Kinda. You're gonna have to look over my shoulder to see us go down. An' there's no way you're gettin' outta wearing a helmet."

Johnny eyed Blackheart.

"So y'don't crack your head open. You'd never do somethin' like this without wearing protective gear."

"I wouldn't?"

Blackheart was not stupid. Blackheart was just certain that his head was tougher than the dirt.

"You wouldn't. You're wearing a helmet, or we're not doin' this." He gave Blackheart a surprisingly steely look to emphasize how serious he was about this.

If there was one thing that his Dad drilled him on above all others, it was that you always wear all the safety gear you can, and you never mess around. As much as Johnny was willing to mess around with bikes, he never went against the wear-a-helmet rule.

Okay. Helmet. Minor setback, Blackheart could deal with this.

Helmet on, Blaze can still break his neck, right? Of course right. Yes. Absolutely.

"Fine. I'll put on the helmet."

Johnny clapped him on the shoulder.

"Good. You nervous 'bout this?" he asked.
