While she no longer considered the dead voles a good meal, River still found them interesting. The smell was not appealing however, and it did seem to upset Berthold as well. Remembering that a good way to keep the skeletons intact while getting rid of any soft tissue was to place the carcasses in containers with pierced lids, hang them outside and ( Read more... )

Fresh from a day and a half of meditating, Billy's mind was mostly blank. Except for the hope that it would rain, and keep raining for a bit (though not enough to flood the town), and once he came into the common room, he wondered what was up with all the dead rodents.

"What're you making?"

"Nothing," River replied. "I am preparing the skeletons." She held up one of the voles in its tail, studying it. "If it rains they'll smell worse."

"Hmm, good point." Billy had forgotten she could do that, but since he'd kind of decided to stop worrying about that secret identity thing anyway, he easily slipped back into the mindset of not minding that she could to that.

"So how do you prepare the skeletons? And what are you preparing them for?"

"Once most of the soft tissue is gone you boil it. Leaves the skeleton clean and goos for educational purposes." River swung the vole she was holding from side to side in its tail.
