Fifth floor common room - Friday afternoon

Jul 06, 2007 14:12

Raphael was finally awake and in the common room. He supposed he'd have to adjust his schedule to start doing the whole 'going to class' thing again, but who really cared for now? He certainly didn't. If Namine or Donnie needed him they could knock, same with anyone else, and Mikey was always with him ( Read more... )

Sabriel was exploring. She could go to common rooms not on the second floor as well, so she should. She poked her head into the common room first though, to see if there were anyone she recognized there.

"Donatello! Hello," she called out, smiling, because by now big turtles weren't that odd, really.

Raph cocked an eyebrow, glancing over his shoulder. He pointed to his bandana. "Raphael. Starts with the same letter as 'Red'. Donnie's 'the purple one'." he offered, then took another bite of his sugar bombs.

Sabriel looked where he pointed. "Oh sorry! Hello, Raphael then. I am Sabriel." She paused for a moment. "Do you always wear the same bandanas?"

He shrugged in response to the apology. "Yep. It's helpful to be color coded, or something. I'm red, Donnie's purple, Mikey's usually orange, and there's another one, but he ditched us. So, he's not here, and doesn't really matter." Not bitter. No, not at all.

Raph slurped down his cereal milk, then headed over to the kitchenette to take care of his dishes. "Feel free to change the channel. Nothin' on worth watchin' anyway."

"Mikey's usually orange? He's not now?" Sabriel asked, instead of asking about the other one. Not because of the bitterness, of course. Nope. Certainly not.

She waved her hand towards the television. "Oh, I don't really watch television. It's too strange."

"Mikey's not at the moment... Cos we don't have a really tiny bandana to fit on his head." He thumbed to the little turtle on his shoulder, which was clinging with all its legs.

He glanced up at Sabriel and arched an eyebrow. "Television is too strange? What, and a giant talking turtle isn't?" Really, he wanted to know this. He got that people at Fandom didn't tend to freak out over him or his brothers, but how was television any stranger than them?

Sabriel looked at the little turtle and her jaw dropped. "That's Mikey? But... You're big turtles!" She gave Raphael a slightly accusing look, like she was suspecting him of confusing her on purpose.

"Giant talking turtles are strange, but Donatello was very pleasant when I talked to him, and I suppose I've gotten used to the idea."

She eyed the the little turtle. Tiny talking turtles on the other hand...

Raphael gave her a funny look, but shrugged. This Sabriel was sort of a strange bird herself. "He was a 'big turtle'. I dunno how it happened. He just suddenly turned back. Donnie says it's 'a fandom thing', and he should go back to normal sometime, just dunno when."

He pulled his brother from his shoulder and cupped him safely in both hands, looking down briefly. He'd walked back over to the couch, but he leaned against the back of it rather than sitting.

Sabriel walked a little closer, regarding the little turtle closely. It was a very cute little turtle but it didn't seem very talkative. "I haven't seen any 'fandom things'. What do you mean? Where you not born as big turtles?"

Raph moved his hand a little, giving Sabriel a better view of Tiny Mikey. "It's kind of a long story. Short of it is, we were regular turtles, we wandered into some glowing green stuff, and it turned us into what we are now. Us, and our sensei, anyway. So, no, we weren't born as 'big turtles'."

Raph scratched his head a little, thoughtful. "So, according to Donnie, a 'fandom thing' is something like this. A mutated turtle randomly de-mutating, people turning into animals... I dunno. I certainly can't explain it. You'd be better off askin' him."

Tilting her head in fascination, Sabriel studied Little Mikey Turtle. She hadn't really understood Raphael's explanation but made a mental note to look up 'glowing green stuff' the next time she was in the library.

"How long do these fandom things last? How do they work?" She reached out towards the little turtle, intending to pet him. "Does he speak?"

He didn't prevent her from petting him. He knew Mikey liked attention, especially from cute girls.

"I dunno how long, or how they work." He shook his head a little. "And no. He sorta... hiss-squeaks? I dunno what you'd really call the noises he makes, but they aren't talking as far as I can tell."

"How very odd," Sabriel said, while petting the little turtle. "I do hope he gets big again soon."

Raph kept his eyes on his brother. "Yeah... You an' me both." The worry in his voice was a little more obvious than he'd have liked. "He's been this way for too long, if ya ask me..."

Sabriel looked at him. "How long has he been little then?"

"Since before Monday... Not sure about before that." Raph shrugged a little.

Mikey, for his part, was enjoying the attention. Whenever he wasn't being petted, he scooted blissful little circles around the ample space in Raph's hand. There was the occasional attempt to go over the edge, which Raph easily thwarted by shifting his fingers, but otherwise just scooting.
