If the campfire in front of the Abominable Snowman cabin smelled better than all the others, there was a good reason ( Read more... )

Michelangelo smelled food.
Cooking food. Cooking meat. And it wasn't pizza, clearly, but pizza wasn't going to happen while the power was out, and that was sad.
So, there was a Mikey, scoping out the foodstuffs with a grin.
"Dude. They've still got their feet."

"Michelangelo!" Naminé waved, smiling. "Sokka made dinner, would you care to join us?"

Mikey smiled and waved right back.
"Hey there, Nami! Smells good!" He bounced on over to sit by her and grinned. "Are those, uh... bunnies? Really?"

"I suppose so. It seems cruel to eat bunnies, but it's actually quite good." She handed him a bowl. "And there aren't many other options tonight, with the power off."

"So," she said, trying to keep her tone light, "How has your week been? Mine keeps getting more and more ... interesting."

Mikey happily accepted the bowl and started practically snorting the contents back-- she was right, wee little smooshy squishy fluffy snuggly baby bunny rabbits made an awesome meal.
"Interesting how?" He quirked his head and blinked. "Mine's been totally radical so far. I met up with some pretty cool dudes and we redecorated the vice-principal's office. He's a pretty cool guy. His head's on fire. There were ponies. And kittens. And naked. And silly string. Almost totally in that order."

Naminé stared for a few moments before she began laughing. "Are you serious?" She shook her head. "I don't think I can picture that. I wish I could have seen it. How does nudity fit in with ponies, kittens, and silly string?"

"I've met yet another person who doesn't know me, and someone who is friends with ... the person I spoke to when we first met." Her face fell. "I'm becoming less and less sure that I should be here, Michelangelo. I think it's dangerous."

"Well, naked fits in with the silly string because the mutiny was a na-wait what whoa! Hold the phone!" Mikey's face fell as he looked at Namine. "You're leaving, already? Because of the stupid guy with nasty hair? Because... I mean, it's totally not dangerous if I stick around, you know? I mean, I'm pretty tough and I wouldn't want to see you leave because of some dude who doesn't know when to back off." He considered for a moment, then pouted a little. "I could totally make sure he doesn't go near you, you know? Because if he scares you and won't leave you alone, that's totally not cool."
He set down his bowl an pouted at her. "And as for the people who don't know you... Don't you kind of start out not knowing anyone anyhow? So say hi, and be your pleasant and totally awesome self, and they'll know you all over again for the first time in no time."
He attempted a reassurring smile, but he really, really didn't want to see his gremlin-buddy leave, so it was making the grin a little difficult.

"A mutiny? What were you attempting to overthrow?" She couldn't imagine a revolution carried out with nudity and silly string, but this island was unusual to say the least.

"I'm not certain. I won't do anything rash, and the juggler pointed out that I have protectors here," she flushed a bit at that, "which makes it safer than somewhere else. But I can't risk them finding me, no matter how many knights I have. And I still jump whenever I hear his name. I know how childish that must seem."

Naminé thought for a moment. "This was another alternate reality, I think. I knew someone, or knew of someone, who was him, but not him. I suppose I looked foolish in front of the entire class, going on about that. 'You must be Leon, why are you Squall now?'"

"We were trying to overthrow the man, or clothing, or something of the sort. Either way, it earned me detention, which is cool. It was, you know... fun." Babbling about naked mutinies was less appealing given the rest of the conversation.
"Man, if he scares you, it's so not childish... I mean, something happened, right? And you're afraid that you'll be made to do things to someone, and it's totally cool that you don't want to, you know?" He hesitated a moment, then ventured to say the next part rather tentatively indeed. "What ... did they do to you? I mean, if I'm not prying? I mean.. You know?"

Mikey shrugged the last bit off with a wee grin. "I look foolish all the time, you know? Just make like you meant to do that, and everyone will be cool with it, no harm done."

"Detention? Isn't that a punishment? Are you all right, then?" Naminé seemed more concerned than he was. She hoped it wasn't bravado. "Did you succeed, in overthrowing ... clothing, or the man?"

"It wasn't him," she clarified quickly. "It was the others, that he knows. The Organization which he belongs to. They wanted to control the keyblade master, and because of who - or what - I am, they realized they could use me against him." Naminé stared at her hands. "I said no as long as I could."

"Well, we're allowed to do the detention thing naked, so I think we've overthrown clothing. Not that I was gonna wear clothes to detention, anyhow. And I could totally swear that I heard the man crying as we left, so I think we totally succeeded," Mikey babbled.

"Okay. That is so not cool. So not cool that, man, if-- I mean! Dude. Just," Michelangelo was flabberghasted. "Dude, if that guy with the hair ever gives you a hard time again, let me know, and I'll pummel him ten ways to Sunday, man. Like, right into next week. Because... Dude. Just... Dude."
It was possible that Naminé had broken Mikey's mind. His ability to form coherent sentences was suffering more than normal.
So he did the next best thing he could think of, and he gave her a hug.

"Congratulations, then," she said softly. "I'm glad it was a success."

"It's fine, really," Naminé's voice was a touch unsteady. "He says he's not one of them any more, I suppose I have to believe him. It wasn't him, but the thought of going back there --"

When he hugged her, she closed her eyes for a long moment before leaning against him, with a slight catch to her breath. "I'm sorry. I don't want you to get hurt. Not for me."

Mikey gave her a little bit of a reassuring squish before he let go and sat back, still frowning worriedly at her even as his expression went from shocked to determined.
"No way, dudette. I'm not gonna get hurt. And you are so not going back there, you have my word as a turtle." He puffed up his chest a little and did his best to look big and tough and noble. It fell possibly a little short, but at least he was trying. "I'm gonna be your hero, Nami, and you won't have anything to worry about for as long as you want to stay here. I promise."

"Promises are big things to make," she said carefully. "You don't know. I might be someone who doesn't deserve a hero at all. I haven't told you who I am. What I am. Why they're after me."

"There's someone who would rather see me ... dispensed with ... then ever able to be used against Sora again. I'm running from him, too." Naminé gave him a weak smile. "I suppose I'm harder to protect than most. I'm sorry."

Mikey shook his head firmly and pondered if diving in for another hug would stress his point further.
"Dudette, Nami, you're a friend, no matter who or what else you are. I'm gonna be there for you, and you are so not gonna change my mind, kapiche?"
He offered her his best grin. "Come on, stick around? And if you don't feel safe with me around, then I guess I can't stop you from leaving... But it would really suck to see you go out there on your own."

Naminé smiled back at him, still tentative. "I suppose if you've promised to protect me, then I'm safe. Promises live in your heart, if you mean them."

"If something happens, some way, if they take me again - will you find me?" She shook her head quickly. "It's not myself I'm concerned for. I'm not a princess in a castle that deserves a rescue. But I don't know how long I can resist them this time. I said I would never do it again, but I worry about how long it would take m-my resolve to break."
