Given the current not-ideal-for-RP changes to the LJ default comments and our many discussions of alternatives, we thought we should bring together a list in one place of the various options and how to install each, as well as the attached drawbacks and benefits. I know Bloggish is next on his list, because it has some ... similarities to the, uh .......... okay I'll be honest, Bloggish is next because I miss Lucrezia's old journal layout.
Is there any particular layout style that should be queued up after that? I think he's planning on snagging all of them* but if someone's waiting on a particular style to get their pretties back, speak now so it can be bumped.
*I asked him why he was doing this, beyond just "being fucking amazing," and he said "I want to see exactly how long it takes me, because that's exactly how badly LJ sucks for not doing this themselves."

Anyone who's using the original version of the Smooth Sailing fix, I'd encourage you to use the updated version. In addition to looking better, it has the advantage that if I ever need to make any changes to it, you'll be automatically updated.
...And as for "exactly how long it takes me", the answer to that was a total of somewhere around 8-10 hours of work for Flexible Squares and Smooth Sailing combined. A single person-day. How many programmers does LJ have on staff?

I personally cannot get subject lines to work, even with use of many scripts and plenty of assistance from other players, so I find that checkbox endlessly useful!

What I like as well about the style are the shortcuts to add html-tags (crtl+b, ctrl+i, ctrl+u) to a comment. My laziness appreciates that.
ETA: The parent link does show other comments in a thread. I just went up this simple thread and once I hit this link, it shows me everything. Which is logical as it doesn't show subthreads until you're consulting the actual parent itself. (All scripts above disable the stupid hovering over the header thing so the link is freely available.)
Shhhh, I might have looked over this thread first. You saw nothing.

And yeah, the Parent-link thing seems to be working properly. There was a point when it didn't, and I hadn't tested it since then, or seen anyone mention that it was fixed!

LJ style (and sub-style if there is one, like Minimalism/Georgia): Minimalism/Fire Smooth (which is bearable), but I read Bo's old flist using this.
Comments style (Default? Default with scripts? A custom style listed here or one that isn’t?): Classic Comments, at the moment.
What I like most about my setup: It mostly works?
What I like least about it: the lack of LJ headers on the pages and not being able to stay in a thread when replying. (Back button + Refresh is my friend, there.)
What my favorite ice cream flavor would be if I liked ice cream: Mint chocolate chip or chocolate fudge

LJ style: Flexible squares
Comments style: Default with scripts, but then my own script (based on the ones linked above) and the greasemonkey script.
What I like most about my setup: I actually think it's prettier than the other styles. The threading works fine for me in this and causes me the least annoyances (jumping out of the thread was my main grief).
What I like least about it: I just wish the icon selector would put the prompt automatically in the text box and that it wouldn't go off screen. I made a ticket about that, but haven't seen a response so far.
What my favorite ice cream flavor would be if I liked ice cream: Speculaas

LJ style (and sub-style if there is one, like Minimalism/Georgia): Minimalism all the way, with Classic Comments.
Comments style (Default? Default with scripts? A custom style listed here or one that isn’t?): Classic Comments, with no scripts, because I am desperately lazy.
What I like most about my setup: It looks like LJ used to, for I fear change.
What I like least about it: I hate being booted out of my long threads so much.
What my favorite ice cream flavor would be if I liked ice cream: I'm a mint chocolate chip kinda girl. (And I will be getting myself a FREE scoop tomorrow. It is p. much my favorite part of the dreaded quarter-life crisis birthday, yes.)
