Hiya, folks. We're working on the round-up for the Open Forum two weeks ago and hope to have that completed soon, but since one of the big issues was the How's My Driving meme and how it's run, we'd like to get some feedback from the players on that score before we come to a conclusion and present that as part of the round-up.
We do agree that the current setup is causing bad experiences for some players, and we want to avoid that, but we're also not comfortable as admins with intervening in discussions between adults when no one in (or even outside) of the discussion has asked us to intervene. The issue isn't, never has been, and never will be, that we aren't watching what's going on. It's that no two people's opinions are the same on what constitutes an unpleasant or "over the line" situation; if players are continuing to participate in a conversation, we have to assume they're doing it voluntarily, unless someone tells us otherwise.
The exception to that situation is one that unfortunately came up during the last HMD, where a player who hadn't signed up for crit was being discussed in the context of interactions with another player's character. While we don't want to stifle discussion, if we continue with official HMD memes, we are going to ask from the start that discussion on the official meme only concern players who've signed their characters up there.
Here's where we come to the feedback part: there are a couple of alternatives for how we might run the HMD if it remains official. There's also the option of discontinuing it and leaving crit to personal HMD posts, e-mail, and unofficial memes hosted off-game. Before we come to a conclusion on what we think would work best for the game, we'd like to get some general feedback from the players by way of a poll here, in the comments so that everything stays screened and people can offer opinions freely.
HMD Options
1. Continue to have official HMD memes with anon commenting available; only players who've signed up on the meme may be discussed on the meme. Admins will intervene if someone feels a thread is getting out of hand and requests help, or if game/LJ rules are being broken.
2. Continue to have official HMD memes, but only non-anon; only players who've signed up on the meme may be discussed on the meme. Admins will intervene if someone feels a thread is getting out of hand and requests help, or if game/LJ rules are being broken.
3. Discontinue the official HMD memes; if a player wishes to post their own meme in a non-game journal, that's fine, with the understanding that this is not admin-run or moderated.
4. I have another idea, which I'll tell you in the comments!

You can just respond with just a number if you'd like, or go into any detail you care to; comments are also open for any additional thoughts on the HMD process that you'd like to share with the admin team.
