This is a wee bit late but the holidays and NEW PEOPLE pushed our schedule around a bit.
Hi guys!
Here's a round-up of the issues that were brought up in last month's open forum post.
Fandom Cap: Some questions were asked about the nature of the fandom cap. Fandoms are primarily grouped together based on whether or not they share continuity. Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel: the Series and Fray, for example, are counted as the one fandom. The same applies for the various Power Ranger shows. Marvel is a complicated beast and at this stage, we consider X-Men to be a fandom of its own (due to its notoriety) and the rest of the Marvel universes to be a fandom of its own. This is due to the complex nature of continuities and universes in comic book canon as they're different from normal shows/movies/sane universes. Alumni do count towards the fandom cap and we're not looking at changing that at this time, although we are not against the idea of revisiting that policy if it becomes a problem later down the track.
Spotlight on Fandoms: This is restarting this semester. See
this post for more details.
Where do admins come from?: Not storks or the cabbage patch, contrary to popular belief. The current admin/mod team decides on any new members since we're the ones who know the job and what it entails and who would best suit the team and the position.
Plot Proposals: There has been some confusion of late when it comes to what needs to be included in plot proposals. We're going to put together a form to fill out for plot proposals to make it easier for players to structure their thoughts and include all necessary information.
BDE: There are plenty of differing opinions when it comes to organizing the game-wide plots that we call BDEs (Big Damn Events). As we were planning to do prior to the Open Forum, we're going to keep working on ways to incorporate all different kinds of characters (fighters, researchers and everyone in between) in order to make BDEs more interactive, varied and fun for all involved. There were concerns aired that BDEs are all-encompassing and make it difficult to do anything else when they're on. That has always been the case with BDEs since the zombies in September 2005 as the BDEs are intended to involve the entire island. They're only one weekend (or, in the case of the plaaaague, one week) out of the entire semester and we intend to keep running them in this fashion. They're unlike normal plots and day to day events in that BDEs are really more about taking your character and throwing them at a situation. If you want a situation you can throw at your character, come up with a personal plot idea.
Increasing the Character Limit: There was a request to increase the allowed character limit from 4 to 5. We're going to discuss the pros and cons of this and get back to you later this semester.
