Student feedback on the bouncy castles was... less than glowing, so the school board had planned to let students remain in the dorms this summer while they decided whether to rebuild permanent cabins or come up with another idea. Will the island be kind enough to let that happen? LOLOLOLOL school board, so adorably naive.
Due to a yet-to-be-revealed issue with the dorm building, all students will be moving for three weeks to an emergency shelter on the shore of Ingvar Islet, kindly provided by his daddy by way of the good folks at IKEA. Everyone has a home, but if you don't have a home, you really can find one there! Fear not; we don't mean that it's held together with coconuts, palm leaves, and spit. In fact, it's a rather large, impressive house with plenty of room -- two-to-a-bedroom, just like the dorms -- for students and grads to sleep, study, and hang out in peace.
Did we say peace? We meant "pieces." As in the house is constructed from pieces of every bit of IKEA furniture that ever got returned due to the unfortunate demise of its owner during a horrible Allen Wrench accident, or never made it out of the showroom in the first place because of the Zombie Employee Apocalypse of Seventy-Six, or That Thing At The Warehouse We Don't Talk About Ever Especially When The Lawyers Are Around.
In other words, the building is haunted. (Mostly in a handwavy NPC manner by you, the players, but we don't rule out a few random-event incidents here and there!) We'll have more details of how and where (and what the place looks like) for you as we get closer to move-in time, but we wanted to let you know that much in advance so you can make informed OOC decisions during sign-ups!
What's Different? What's Not?
There will only be one longer time period spent in the alternate housing, instead of two short ones; the three weeks will start just before the beginning of the second summer session, running from Saturday, June 28th to Sunday, July 20th.
The house will have all the basic amenities that the dorms do, including a couple of open areas for common-room type posts. Character-type restrictions are the same: only students and grads should be hanging out anyplace in the house besides the lobby-equivalent; teachers and townies are welcome there or on the Ingvar beach.
Since characters will have regular rooms, the only warnings you need about sexytimes are a) as usual, be respectful of your roommate on an OOC level, and b) with unquiet spirits roaming about, youuuu never know whoooo might be waaaatching youuuuuuuu... Likewise, though there are electricity, tv's, a kitchen, etc., you never know when they'll be on the blink due to ghostly activities. Ghosts and supernatural activity can be modded by anyone in common areas -- we just ask that this be decided when the post is made and noted in an OOC note or the narrative of the main post, so people can decide if they want to throw their characters in or not.
We won't be using the regular campgrounds at all this time; workshops will either be held in the school or around a beach campfire on Ingvar's shore for any teachers who prefer an outdoor class. There'll be an hourly ferry back and forth from Ingvar to Fandom, running between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Fandom time -- handwavy in general, but people are welcome to make open-to-all-characters ferry posts in the Townies comm. Just indicate what time it is and which direction the ferry is going - toward Fandom or Ingvar!
Sign-Ups: Again, A Little Different This Time, So Please Read
Students and grads heading off-island either permanently or just for the 2nd summer session don't need to sign up. Those who'll be here for any part of the 2nd summer session, including those who've been away for the first, do need to sign up. (Unless you're a grad who wants to live in town.)
You'll sign up two to a room this time; though you don't have to stick with your regular roomie, you can if you like. Paperwork errors are still available for those who want to be paired with someone specific your character would never voluntarily live with, and the RNG for those who want to shake things up. Grads won't have a separate area; if you want to pair a student in a room with a grad, go for it.
This part's important and is why we're giving out details in advance: we want people to have an opt-out for having their personal space haunted, so you'll need to agree between you and your roommate whether you want a haunted bedroom, or no, and tell us so in your sign-up. So we can match people up properly, if you request to be RNG'd, also tell us whether you want a haunted room, or a ghost-free one.
Sign-ups will close at 11:59 pm Pacific time on Tuesday, June 24th. All students who'll be around during the 2nd summer session, and all grads who aren't moving away or living in town need to sign up.
