Library [08/01]

Rory hurried into the library and turned on the fan immediately before outfitting the desk with both a bottle of water and an iced latte.

With these fortifications, she was ready to spend the day there.

[SP from me for a little while - I have to run into work for a couple hours, and I'll answer all tags when I'm back omg.]

Having never been in the library - at least not that he remembered - Jack bounced inside, very small white box in one hand, iced orange mocha cappucino in the other, and grinned at Rory. "Hi."

"Hi," Rory replied, raising a brow. "What brings you to the li...you're not here to get married, are you?"

With an elegant flourish, Jack slid the white box, which was big enough to hold a large muffin, or something else from J,GoB, across the desk towards Rory and placed the coffee next to it. "Maybe," he laughed, looking smug.

Rory peeked in the box and burst out laughing. "Cute. I'm afraid all I have is books, unless you want bottled water?" she offered, holding up an unopened bottle.

"Anything from you would be a gift." Jack batted his eyelashes, then grinned. "So yeah, water would be good, thanks. And it's chocolate fudge," he said, pointing at the tiny cake.

"Thank you," she said, smiling and handing him the water. "I'll share if I can figure out how to cut it. I don't exactly keep cutlery here, sadly."

Jack took the water, opening and drinking about a third of it, before recapping it. "Thank you," he said. "It's hot out there." Then, with an even more elegant flourish, he pulled two plastic wrapped, plastic forks out of his back pocket. "I came prepared."

Rory laughed again. "Like a very charming Boy Scout."

Jack handed her a fork, and smirked. "Kind of." Tapping the coffee he'd placed on the counter, he said, "That's yours, too."

"Thank you, Jack," Rory said, taking the fork and happily taking a sip of the coffee. "You didn't have to do any of this."

Jack shrugged, smiling as he twirled the fork between his fingers. "A guy's got to look after his fake-fiancee. And it's fun to do things for you."

Rory smiled. "Even if I left you at the altar?" she asked seriously, taking a bit of the cake. "This is wonderful, thank you."

"I've got to win you back somehow," Jack replied, smirking a little as he nabbed a bit of cake for himself. "Chocolate seemed like a good place to start. And coffee."

"Quickest way to my heart, yes," she said with a soft laugh. "What's new and interesting with you, all talk of marriage aside?"

"I figured." He grinned and stole another bit of cake. "New and interesting, huh? I'm going on a rafting trip this weekend, with Izzy, Greg, Parker, Jarod, Sam and Cedric. Does that qualify?"

"You're willingly traveling with Greg?" Rory asked skeptically. "Where are you all going?"
