Creative Cooking with a Focus on Pudding - Thursday 3rd Period

Today's class was all about pastry cooking! Wonka sped through his tutorial on puff pastry dough, flipping it over, rolling it out, and glancing up occasionally to make sure that the students were following him. Whether they were or weren't, he continued, slicing and crafting sections into danish shapes. As he ladled jam into the center of each one, he got to the fun part.

"Now, most bakers are going to tell you that precision is key in baking, that it is a science. Hogwash. Baking is an art, and as with all arts, precision and rules are only necessary when they benefit you." He tossed down another glop of jam. "If you want puff pastry to reach the right texture, you need to raise it properly." He tossed down another glop of jam. "That means big meals and plenty of praise."

He smiled at the tray. "Somewhat sloppy, perhaps, but you'll all grow out of it. I believe in you. Bake for fifteen minutes, don't open the oven, but do whisper words of encouragement." He popped his tray of messy danishes into the oven. "Not too much encouragement, mind. Pride puffs you up, but we don't need them to swell up." He smiled. "Take your time, show them the warmth of your love and the hospitable environment of the oven, and when they're all done-"

-he brandished a large, sharp knife-

"-you can slice them up to share with your fellow classmates. Hop to it!"
