How to Be Awesome, Tuesday, Period 3

Jun 03, 2014 08:08

Bod waited for everyone to file into the Danger Shop and stare blankly at him since he wasn't the usual person who led the class. He tried to look non-threatening and friendly, smiling and nodding at people as they came in. Once he figured everyone was there, he stood up.

"Good morning," Bod said easily, nodding at everyone. "My name is Nobody Owens. Kate, your regular teacher, is currently under the weather and she's resting at home with our dog, Seamus. I'm her boyfriend and she might have mentioned me but if she hasn't, it's a pleasure to meet you all. Kate sent me here today to talk about..."

He trailed off and pulled out the list she'd give him. "Being awesome in a relationship. Right. Uh." He scratched his cheek. "Well, I don't know if I have a lot of expertise in this subject but I can tell you what works for me. Being kind, being understanding and being open are the big things. You're significant other and yourself will most likely have many similarities. You will find things you have in common and you will enjoy things together. But, there are going to be times when you disagree. When he or she does something you don't like. The best thing I've found is to not to jump to conclusions. Be open minded and see where your partner is coming from. You might not agree but that doesn't mean they're wrong."

He stopped talking for a minute, fingering the list. "Also, listen. Listen a lot. Never stop listening. When your partner is talking, listen. Don't ever ignore them because you will miss so many amazing things. Be observant and let your partner know that you are one hundred percent present. And if all else fails..."

Bod trailed off again and started up the Danger Shop simulation. Suddenly, there were puppies. So many puppies. "Buy your partner a puppy. That always wins!"

Bod smiled and gestured them all to the puppies because come on, you had to play with the little doggies!
